It was a little later the night and Josh and Maya was just hanging out at his college dorm.
They had ate dinner at some fancy place and now they were just hanging out.
Maya had felt quite a few feelings but she hadn't known what they meant.
They were drinking coffee and Maya was just going through some old photos that Josh gave her.
She came upon a photo of an baby in the NICU and knew what it was.
"When you were in the hospital?" Maya asked and gave Josh the photo.
"Yeah. How do you know?" Josh asked.
"Your sister-in-law," Maya said.
"You know way too much about me and I know way too little about you. What can you tell me about yourself?" Josh asked.
"This entire thing with my mom and Shawn was the first thing in June years I put my hope on. After my father left me and my mom it just hurt too bad to put my hope on something that will eventually never happen," Maya said.
"I have tried to put myself in your position many times since I found out about your biological father. But I can't. I can't even imagine what it must feel like to be left alone as a five year old girl. And then to process your mother neglecting you. I don't know how youh are so extremely strong," Josh said.
"I'm not actually. I made it because I had someone with me," Maya said and looked down.
Josh couldn't stop looking at her.
She was absolutely beautiful.
She didn't do much effort with her make-up or hair but still she looked gorgeous.
Josh admired her for a second before opening his mouth.
"And you still do. Riley and all your friends may not be here and my brother might be thousands of miles away but I'm not going anywhere soon. You still have me," Josh said.
"And I am extremely grateful for that. I'm grateful that you still want anything to do with me," Maya said.
"I should actually be the one who is grateful. I treated you like nothing for years and you just act like it's in the past. Nothing. How can you do that?" Josh asked.
"If you have been through everything I've been through, you learn one thing. The people who bother to come back to you, you hold on to. Yes. You didn't entirely treat me like royalty but you came back. You still came knowing I'll be there. That's what matters," Maya said.
"I came back because I knew you needed someone. You shouldn't be alone," Josh said.
"I thought I was alone. When Riley left and shortly after her all my friends... I really did think I was alone. But I'm not. I was never alone and I know that now," Maya said.
"I love you," Josh said and Maya smiled.
"I love you too," Maya said and Josh leaned in closer for a kiss.
When their lips touched it was like everything disappeared for awhile.
Maya couldn't be more happy.
She had finally gotten not just her first kiss but Joshua Matthews told her he loves her which menats the world to her.
To both of them.
