We arrived at a diner that is Kayla and my favorite. We would always go here when we were little, but then we grew up and you know the rest. The diner is like a classical 50s theme. On the outside had neon sign, but on the inside is the best. We walked in and there is a jukebox, the booth are white and red, there was stools that are red. The tiles were black and white, there were neon signs inside to, and old movie posters. There were only a few people there.
We sat in our usual spot which was the red stools. We talked for a couple of minutes till our waitress came.
"Hey girls haven't see you two in such a long time." said our friend Melanie. She works here and she would always be here when we came. She is about 23, I know she is young, so why would she work at a restaurant? Well you see about 3 years ago she was in collage studying to be physiologist, but when your young and in collage with a bunch of collage friends you tend to head in the wrong directions. She became pregnant and left collage to take care of the baby. The baby daddy is long gone. She left him when he started to drink and do drugs. She left him and got her life back on track.
"Hey Melanie. I know but you know our family's been busy lately, hadn't have much time to go out as a family." said Kayla.
"Its all right. So what will it be?" she asked.
"Well I would like to have a double cheeseburger with curly fries and a coke." I said.
"I would like the same but a strawberry milkshake instead of coke." Kayla said.
"Ok I'll be back with your food." she said and left to fill in our order.
"We really need to start eating healthier." Kayla said.
"Yeah we could, but what fun would that be when mom and dad yell at us for not eating our vegetables." I said.
"True. They think that were five years old." said Kayla.
"Right. Hey Kayla I got a question ask you." I said.
"What's the questions?"
"How come you don't have a boyfriend? Your pretty, smart, and funny. You can get any guy you want."
"Oh um....... because the last time I got close to a guy it turned bad and I'm just waiting for the guy that God has for me." Kayla said. But there is something she's not telling me. I can feel it. It's something that she is keeping hidden, not just form me but from everyone.
"I get it." I said trying to think of another topic that we can have.
"Alright here we go." said Melanie carrying a tray with food. Man did it smell good I didn't even realize how hungry I was. She placed our food in front of us.
"Thanks Melanie." I said.
"Thank you Melanie." Kayla said.
"Your welcome." she said then left.
When Melanie left I went into eating my food but not Kayla. She pushes her food a little further from her then she bows her head and closes her eyes. What the.....? What was she doing? She takes literally a minute. Then I hear her say amen. Was she praying? Kayla must have noticed me looking at her weird because she says "Before you eat your suppose to pray to God so that you can give thanks him for the food and other things."
"Ok" I said and went back to eating. We talked and ate. It kinda felt like the old days when we were still close, but not quite. Kayla would never change back she is happy the way she is right now. She's a christian and that's her life but maybe being a Christian isn't so bad. I used to go to church and it was a christian church. When I would go there people would look so happy and greeted me with the warmest smiles. They would always help you when you need it. When they worship they do it with a passion, like they never want to stop. When I would go there it's a feeling of peace and a place where you felt safe, that you don't want to leave. And now you are wondering why I left church if I felt so safe and happy well I'll tell you two words: peer pressure. I saw that nobody else was going to church so I stopped. Nobody wants to be an outcast. Kayla became the person that she used to be and I changed because I was pressured to change because of Kayla. But when Kayla changed she became the person that I would dream to be, not this. But I will never tell Kayla that.
