"Do you have to go?" Sam pouted. "I mean, can't you just move here and stay with me forever?"

Jess jumped on top of her suitcase to zip it up. "My work here is done. You and Gabriel are together—" Sam shushed her. The walls were thin — "and you're talking to people. Now I must get back to my mundane life in Kansas."

"Can we at least do one more thing? One more activity before you go?"

"Of course, my mum isn't coming until 12," Jess checked her watch, "we have four hours. What do you want to do?"

Sam thought for a minute. It was a Sunday morning. Most things wouldn't be open, but there was one place... "there's an ice cream shop a couple of blocks away."

Jess' eyes lit up. "Perfect."

"Do you... do you think we could bring Gabriel?" Sam asked nervously. "I mean, I really want you guys to get to know each other more, you know, and every moment we spend together is great and it would be fantastic if you two could be friends as well—"

"You're repeating yourself," Jess said. "But of course. Bring your boyfriend—"

"Not so loud!"

"Sorry. Bring Gabe to the ice cream shop. He'll love it." Jess winked and Sam flushed.

"So there's something I wanted to ask you—" Sam started, but Jess beat him to it.

"Do you want to go for ice cream after school?" She asked. Sam stared in shock, then awe, then confusion. As in, like, a date? He didn't dare ask in case he messed up and embarrassed himself in front of this really cute girl.

"Uh— yes. That'd be cool—nice. That'd be nice." So much for not embarrassing himself.

Gabe was going to meet them there. Dean dropped them off in the impala on his way over to the Novak's. Jess tried to mention the fact that none of them were legal adults and Dean driving them was breaking multiple road rules, but Dean didn't want to hear it. According to him he was more than qualified to drive four blocks.

He left in a bit of a hurry when he saw the cops outside the cafe next to the ice-cream parlour.

"Samsquatch!" Gabriel leapt into Sam's arms as soon as the impala had turned the corner. Sam squeezed back. They hadn't seen each other in twenty-four hours yet it had felt like an eternity.

"Wow, geez, I should not have agreed to this. Now I know how Tony felt. Third-wheeling sucks." Sam laughed and pulled away, glaring at Jess.

"Who's Tony?" Gabriel asked.

"A friend from Kansas," Jess explained. "He used to third-wheel on our dates all the time." It took a moment for Gabriel to process what had been said.

"You guys used to date?" He asked.

"Yeah," Sam said awkwardly, "but then I kind of realised I was gay." Gabriel's expression changed immediately and he grinned.

"Let's go inside because I am seriously craving sugar right now."

"You're always craving sugar."

"Not the point, Sammantha."

"So... what? This is becoming a tradition or something? Are we always going to come here?" Jess asked as they ordered their ice-creams.

"I guess so," Sam shrugged. "But are you seriously complaining?"

"Never!" Jess squealed. "My boyfriend's giving me free ice-cream? Where's the downside to that?"
