Chapter 5
"It's been two weeks since I been in school at TSU, going into the third. The program was going great, I liked both of my teachers so far. And I haven't had any homework yet, so they both were seriously gaining brownie points for that.
I Threw the cover off of my head as my alarm went off right next to my ear. followed by the thundering and storming sounds outside of my window. I looked over to the clock it read 7:30am, I simply got up dreading my existence for the moment on this early Wednesday morning. My classes starting in the middle of the week was bittersweet, one minute your grateful you don't have to wake up early on those dreadful Mondays, but the next minute you hate having to get up in the middle of the week after sleeping in Monday & Tuesday, I had this stupid heavy headache that'll leave anyone in tears. I guess my tiredness was starting to really catch up to me. I quickly showered and threw on a pair of my comfortable jeans, with a burgundy knitted cardigan, I put on some of my knee high Steve Madden boots, with a crochet infinity scarf, I put my hair up in a neat bun, and I was on my way, when I left my home the wind was blowing ridiculously, it looked as if it could be a hurricane any minute. I hated driving in weather like this. I arrived to school, and got to my class, when I seen half the students standing outside waiting to be let into Mr. Carter's classroom, I was confused because it was 15 minutes til class started and he was no where in sight which was very unusual, then immediately my mind drifted off to irritation with the thought of him deciding not to show today because of this weather, that would have meant I got up and out of the bed for nothing, but I tried not to think about the thought, because it was still a possibility he could have shown up any minute now. I asked my classmate Jessie who was standing on the wall right next to me, looking just as impatient as everyone else.
"How long has everyone been out here?" I asked him honestly wanting to know, it would have determined rather if it was worth staying for class or not.
"I don't know, i just arrived maybe 5 minutes before you did..I hope Carter is a no show, that way I can go back to my dorm and sleep peacefully!"
"yeah. I understand that. I didn't know you stayed on Campus.." I stated, just trying to make small talk to get my mind off of the pneumonia weather that was arresting over my body.
"I don't stay on campus, I just stay in the dorms. my apartments are a few blocks away from here."
"Oh okay.. My condo is a few ways from here as well." I said trying not to be awkward, I guess I wasn't as interested as I thought, with starting this conversation.
Five more minutes had passed and a Black on Black Cadillac SUV was pulling up in the back parking lot where our class was located, I prayed to God it was Mr. Carter, I couldn't feel my nose. He quickly appeared from the passenger side of the Vehicle with his lap top bag, along with a book bag, He jogged across the lot to our class and quickly began to apologize for his tardiness.
"Hey you guys, please forgive me for my tardiness"
No one said anything, other than talking among themselves. I think everybody was damn near frozen. He opened the class room, it surely didn't help, it was just as cold. He had one of the students place his things on his desk while he fiddled with the heater, after 5 more minutes he eventually got it on. it was now 9am. which meant we wasted 30 minutes of non productive class time. it's not like I had a issue, but I knew deep down he did. that was the type of teacher he was. He simply did his original routine by walking in front of his desk leaning against it to talk to us.
"You guys, it's been one hell of a morning for me-.." He started "I don't enjoy pity parties, so surely that isn't what I am looking to accomplish on this morning. Things happen, and I am aware of that. For starters, Because of this storm I woke up to my front lawn palm tree sprawled across the whole entire hood and front window of my Car." immediately you heard the Class gasps, and begin to talk among themselves. "I would have just took my other car, but the tree was blocking my drive way so it was no way I was going to get it out of the garage. I called for assistance and they put me on hold for 45 minutes. then the phone line became busy because of the storm obviously. So that left me no other choice but to call my inadvisable bestfriend of a brother, which is why I am late this morning, so again. forgive me."
