"Familiars... A royals best friend." Virgil cringed against the sound of the chalkboard as he sat there in the back of the class. Ironic this was the weeks subject... Virgil sighed as he glanced over fully aware of the eyes burning into his skull. There was Roman just staring at him angerly as if Virgil had intentinally fucked up his life. And Thomas had said it would be fine... what a load of bull. "Familiars..." Virgil reluctantly turned back to the board seeing the teacher glancing around at everyone. "They are more than just... an animal."

"Animal's, in general, are amazing judges of character. They instantly read a person and decide who they are. If you're good they'll trust you. The more 'good' a person has the more the animals will flock to them. Take Patton for example..." Virgil spotted the Prince amongst his classmates and smiled at the embarrassed blush on Patton's cheeks. "The prince here takes after his mother in many ways. One being his affinity towards animals. Both can speak to them and both are loved by them."

"Except a familiar hasn't chosen him yet. Why?" The teacher's eyes darted about hearing a student ask and smiled.

"Simple... His familiar just hasn't found him yet." Virgil frowned glancing down at the small bird asleep in his desk. "As I stated before familiars aren't just animals... and not anyone will do the job. A familiar is a special type of animal that chooses the royal they belong to. They're their helper of sorts. They assist with whatever the Royal plans to do... and just helps in general. Think of a familiar as a royals best friend."

"You keep saying royal but..." This was a voice Virgil recognized. The boy looked around until he spotted a familiar boy in a blue tie with his hand slightly raised... Logan. "There were Villians with familiars as well. Maleficent and The Evil Queen being two of them." The teacher frowned as Logan let his hand fall. "I'm confused at your classifications."

"Well, Those two are still royals." Logan's eyes narrowed and Virgil shifted uncomfortably in his seat. He didn't like thinking of his mother as a queen because that made him a prince and he didn't like the sound of that. Far too much responsibility... Besides he was a vk. His mother had no standing here and so neither did he. "Maleficent was the queen of fairies and the other is literally called the evil queen. And their familars are both crows... Which brings us to our next topic."

"Each familiar has a meaning behind them. From the common Cat or Dog to the rare and elusive bluebird." Virgil tensed up again shooting a glance over at Roman who was still staring at him, although a tad less hateful and more confused.

"Rare?" Logan called out again as his face scrunched up in confusion. "But I thought bluebirds were common for princes?"

"Not really... not as a familiar anyway. That's why bluebirds are so sought after though because it's a sign a great royal." Virgil's skin began to crawl as he absentmindedly reached out to pet Blue. The teacher started writing on the board again as he spoke. "Bluebird often symbolize positivity... spreading happiness... a sign of a true royal. If a bluebird chooses you then it sees you as someone fitting to be a leader. Someone the kingdom with flourish under." All this talk woke up the bird. How did Virgil know? Easy... it started to sing. Virgil jumped and started to shush the small creature but instead, it just sang in the desk. Pretty soon every eye was on him. "Anxiety? What is making that sound?" Virgil looked around desprate for help but no one did. In fact, they all just stared at his. His nerves were shot at this point. Reading the anxiety in his owner the little bluebird flew up to Virgil's shoulder to calm him down and the whole room made a collective gasp. Everyone but Roman, Patton, and surprisingly Logan, who just smiled with a knowing look.

"Excuse me but what are you..."

"That's his familiar." Roman called out cutting the teacher off and making the room go silent. The boy was pissed for having to be Virgil mentor but for some reason he just couldn't ignore the look Virgil was getting. "If you have a problem you can talk to the headmaster about it. It was already brought to his attention."

"There is no way HE GOT CHOSEN..."

"Actually, there is." Logan called out as he laughed making everyone tense.

"And he did get chosen." Patton responded as he looked back at Logan with a confused look. "I was there. I was the one that informed Mr. Sanders." The look the teacher gave was horrible as he stormed out of the room no doubt to find Thomas. Virgil could only sit there feeling scared out of his mind even after the bell rang. It wasn't until a hand slammed down on his desk did he even look up to find Roman standing there glaring down at him.

"Hurry up. We've got your stupid goodness class next." Virgil nodded sadly as he pushed himself up dropping his bag accidentally. Roman only scoffed. "Honestly, what is with you. Are you trying to be pathetic?" Virgil didn't give any response. He just picked up his bag and hugged his arm close. "Let's go."

Virgil followed slowly behind the prince as the small bird flew beside him. People would stop and stare at them making Virgil get even slower with anxiety to the point that the Prince was struggling not to explode.

"Will you please hurry up?" Virgil frowned running to catch up only to trip and stumble into Roman who froze up.

"S-Sorry..." Virgil kept his gaze down as he moved away from Roman and headed towards the door to his classroom. He paused only a second looking back to see the puzzled expression on Roman's face, who never moved from that one spot, and frowned.

Just ignore it, Virgil. He's probably just shocked at how pathetic you really are. Virgil chuckled to himself a bit as he took his seat. Blue laid himself down in the desk again as Virgil placed his bag beside him. Moments later Roman came through the door with this weird look in his eyes that Virgil didn't understand. The Prince sat in the desk next to Virgil just as the teacher walked in... Who was his teacher? Well, since you all asked...

"Good morning class!" The teacher beamed at everyone only momentarily lingering on Virgil who smiled back at him.

"Technically it's the afternoon, Thomas." Roman groaned as he laid his head down ignoring the laughter from the oldest. "I'm too tired for this."
