Tessa's P.O.V
My eyelids slowly opened as the footsteps grew louder. I rubbed my eyes and sat up. The lock clicked and the door opened. The gamma, along with two other men stepped in. I rose to my feet, nervously chewing on the inside of my cheek. In his hand was something wrapped in aluminium foil and he threw it at my feet.
"Eat, runt. We'll be back in ten minutes." he spat with hatred before turning on his heel and walking out.
My stomach growled as the smell of the grilled cheese entered my nostrils and I picked it up. I calmly ate on the other side of the room since the stench of the body was now too much to bare. I'd barely finished eating when the men came back. The gamma looked at me with pure disgust before stepping out and his men motioned for me to follow.
I kept my head low as I followed them through the pack land. The atmosphere was tense. Most wore similar uniforms. They walked in troops in direction of the training field, where many others fought against each other.
When we reached the border, the gamma stepped aside to let me by. I took a deep breath and looked at the man beside me. I opened my mouth to say something, but quickly changed my mind when he growled at me.
"Just get off my damn territory." he said and I lowered my head and began to walk away.
Noticing the men behind me, I looked at them with a confused expression.
"What are you doing?"
"They were ordered to make sure that you get back safely."
"Oh no, it's completely fine..."
"The alpha insists, that we make sure that you..." his paused.
His eyes lowered and smiled smugly before looking back into my eyes.
"reach you destination in one piece."
I could sense the double meaning in his statement. The two men stepped forward in a menacing manner and I began to walk.
As we went further into the woods, I heard a familiar giggle.
"The luna's gone missing. Tyler's going crazy."
"How unfortunate...for him." the gamma replied to the female and I automatically knew who the voice belonged to.
I could never forget that voice even if I tried. I'd suspected that we had a mole among us, and boy was I right. I always thought Eva was a snake, but never would I've taken it so literally.
We had been walking for an hour now. I could feel us getting closer to the waterfall, which means we're already halfway through the neutral ground. I looked at the two men behind me. Their jaws were clenched as I looked between them.
"I need to pee." I said and one of them growled at me.
"Shouldn't we be close to your group by now? I can't smell anything but trees for miles."
I didn't know how to answer that so I kept my head down.
"If they're far enough, we won't be able to sense them from here." the other one said and I looked at him.
"Hurry up, runt. We don't have all day." he barked, causing me to flinch as walked towards the bushes hurriedly.
When I got back, I froze in my steps when I didn't find them where I left them. I knew they were still here, and I also knew that they were about to do what they came here for.
My head spun around in direction of the noise of bones snapping. Two brown wolves emerged from the woods, baring their canines at me. I got myself in a protective stance before the first one launched at me. I jumped aside just fast enough to dodge his attack but was close enough to gripe his fur and threw him hard against a tree. He howled in pain but stayed down. I heard the other one snarl behind me and quickly turned around. I was too late because in an instant I was on the ground and screamed as he began to tare at my leg. Once he let go of my flesh, I wrapped my leg around his neck and pulled myself up so that I would use my arms also. My back was on the ground and he shifted and snarled in my grasps causing me to squeeze even tighter. I screamed out in pain and with one swift move, his neck was broken.
