Carla said that a great event was about to happen, it was obvious. Wherever the leader and Finn disappeared I considered it a sign of something like a battle or an attack on phantoms, they took lots of days to show themselves. Meanwhile I went back to the practicing field with my weapons_ sword, bow and arrows. I realized that I did my best with the bow, I couldn't handle being this close to phantoms so I chose to carry on with the arrows and the archery team.
There should be a plan, but things didn't work well as expected. One night, we woke up at screams of children and women. I knew it well, the phantoms dragged Infenya and attacked its people. I ran to put my costume on and get my weapon when I found Anna staring at the window in disbelief.
I got closer and called. "Anna."
"This happened only once, six years ago." she said without taking her gaze off the window.
"When the queen died." I gasped.
In my perspective, it was certain that someone important would be killed, like the king for example or the previous prince. But aren't all the souls valuable? When it comes to life and death, all people are the same and all of them are important.
The kingdom was on fire, totally. Some houses were getting set on fire. What a disaster! I started to run towards them when a phantom came on my way, this startled me that my heart almost dropped. I had only my bow and some arrows, so I stepped back and shot its heart then ran to the opposite side not caring whether it was dead or not. That view made my body tense, people running in all the sides, phantoms walking randomly and attacking every person came in their way and there were some warriors who tried their best to get it under control, but they seemed to be so lost.
I had no option, I even didn't know what to do. I was going to look for the leader and maybe ask him but this wouldn't work, so I stopped where I was and started shooting my arrows on every phantom I spotted.
"Help!" that sharp shaky voice came from one of those small alleys, it was a little girl's voice. She must be in danger.
I hurried toward her direction as she continued her hopeless calls. I was lost at first because she stopped calling.
"No," I told myself. "This can't happen."
I stood still waiting to hear her voice but nothing occurred.
"Little child!" I called out loud. "Where are you?"
There was no answer.
"Little child!"
"Here," she finally replied. "Please come, mom_ mommy."
I rubbed my forehead in confusion then again ran toward her voice, she was one alley away. When I got there, I saw the little girl trying to protect a falling body behind her from a phantom that was approaching.
I notched an arrow in the bow to shoot it then hurried her way.
"Mommy," she cried. "She doesn't want to wake up."
"What happened?" I kneeled down near her, checking the mom.
"They bite her," she started sobbing without finishing her sentence. "Two... two wanted to eat her."
Phantoms don't eat people, it was their way to kill them, they usually bite the neck of the victim to die quickly. So I checked the woman's neck, there was no scar. This should be a relief but her heart wasn't beating, she was already gone and the wound was in her stomach.
I looked at the child who had some hope in her eyes, certainly she waited me to say something that would make her sigh relief. How to tell a five years old girl that her mother passed away?
