*Hawk paces, distraught. He talks to himself.*
HAWK: Get it together. Control it. Don't feel. Don't feel. Don't FEEL!
*He hears ice cracking. Stops. Looks around. He's left a sharp wake of ice spikes behind him on the floor. They grow up the wall, taking over the castle.*
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. BLACK MOUNTAINS -- NIGHT
*The Northern Lights are bright. Lia stares at them in awe as she rides on Sven's back.*
LIA: Look, Sven. The sky's awake.
*Behind Lia and Sven, Shady walks with Alan. She shivers.*
ALAN: Are you cold?
SHADY: ...A little.
*He reaches like he might put an arm around her, but decides against it. He looks around as if he doesn't know what to do, then gets a thought.*
ALAN: Wait. Come here.
*He takes her hand and pulls her around a bend into a rock- lined pass. Steam vents, powered by the volcanic activity, dot the path. He holds her hands over one of them.*
SHADY: Oooh.... That's nice.
*They continue on the path, walking from vent to vent.*
ALAN: *taking a deep breath* So, about my friends...well, I say friends, they're more like family.... Anyway, when I was a kid, it was just me and Sven...until they took me in.
SHADY: They did?
ALAN: *nervous ramble* Yeah. I don't want to scare you, they can be a little bit inappropriate...and loud...very loud...they're also stubborn at times, and a little overbearing. And heavy. Really, really heavy. But they're fine.. You'll get it. They mean well.
*Shady touches Alan's arm, reassuringly.*
SHADY: Alan, they sound wonderful.
*Alan smiles, appreciating her sincerity.*
ALAN: Okay then....
*Mustering the courage, Alan steps forward and with a wave of the arms announces--*
ALAN: Meet my family.
REVEAL: he's surrounded by rocks.
ALAN: Hey, guys!
*As ALAN and Sven move through the rocks, waving and greeting, Lia and shady stand frozen, dumbfounded.*
SHADY: ...They're rocks.
LIA; He's crazy. *covertly, to Shady* I'll distract them while you run. *Loud and slow to a rock* Hi, Sven's family! It's nice to meet you! *quietly to shady* Shady, because I love you, I insist you run. *to the rock* I understand you're love experts! *to Shady* Why aren't you running?
*Shady snaps out of her shock and starts backing away.*
SHADY: Okay. Um...I'm gonna go--
*Just then the rocks around her start moving to reveal the healers.*
FLORA: ALAN'S HOME!
HEALERS: Alan! Alan's home! It's been too long! Alan's home!
*Lia jumps around all excitedly.*
LIA: *excitedly* Alan's home. *she then stops, confused, and looks to one of the trolls.* Wait? Alan?
*Shady watches, shocked and confused.*
*The healers all want Alan's attention. One healer yanks him down with a boulder's strength.*
FLORA: Oh, lemme look at you!
ALAN: Great to see you all. Where's Wise Alex?
PAULA: He's napping. But look, I grew a mushroom.
