Steven Universe FUTURE Episode 1: Can You Spare a Gem?
Episode synopsis:
It's nighttime at the Diamond's Palace, but White Diamond refuses to let anyone go home until she finishes calling the roll.
To her horror, she discovers that Pink Pearl has gone missing, and Spinel is accused of stealing her as she chills with the Pearls a lot. Spinel angrily denies this and squeezed White Diamonds' eyes, and after a heated argument ensues between the two, Sqinel flees to Earth. Steven Universe attempts to convince Spinel to change her mind. But after hearing Spinel's great ambitions, Steven leaves her be and insists that if Spinel needs anything, that she can seek help from him. Big mistake.
Jacques-Yves Cousteau voice (french accent): Closing time at the Diamond's palace.
White Diamond does her nightly roll call of the pearls to make sure they haven't tried to run away (it happens more often than you'd expect).
"Yellow Pearl?" She calls, less of a question, more of a threat.
"Yes, my Diamond," Yellow Pearl answers in her over-performing snively tone.
"Blue Pearl?"
"Yes, my Diamond." Blue Pearl says, quietly.
"Blue Pearl?" White Diamond asks again, her voice raising slightly.
"I'm here, you deaf rock!" She exclaims.
Normally White would shatter her on the spot for speaking out like that, but she's trying not to kill anyone anymore to maintain her fragile relationship with Pink- er Steven.
"How dare you talk back to your Diamond! Go sit in the corner and think about what you've done."
"Yes, my Diamond," Blue Pearl salutes dejectedly, before backing away into the corner of the courtroom.
"Can we go play now?" Spinel asks. She is getting pretty bored with doing the same tedious tasks day in and day out. Standing alone in the garden for 6000 years was more entertaining than this.
White Diamonds scoffs, "perhaps, one of our more loyal workers can enlighten you on company policy," she gestured at Yellow Pearl.
Yellow Pearl smirks, pulling out a manual from her gem, and flicking to the right page:
"The Diamond Palace Employee Manual; 2nd Revised Edition; Page 35; Section 19; Clause 3a, states: All staff must remain on the premises until the Pearls are fully accounted for."
"But that's unfair!" Spinel exclaims.
"Clause 3b: The proprietor reserves the right to be unfair."
"Teacher's pet." Spinel growls.
"Let's see," White looks back down at the three names on the roll. "Pink Pearl?"
White is met with silence. She looks down at Yellow Pearl standing before her with her feet in 1st position, at Blue Pearl who is slumped in the corner, and then at the spot where Pink Pearl stands. It is empty. Nothing but a piece of scuffed crystal floor, which if you think about it, is the gem equivalent of building your house out of human flesh. What the hell.
White is furious.
"Where is she?!"
"Who?" Spinel asks.
"My Pearl! My special pearl, the first pearl I ever made!"
"Pink Pearl!" She faces Spinel, who's sitting on her shoulder. It's a difficult position, but diamonds are hyperflexible. "I always keep her in the courtroom for luck!"
"Well, I ain't ever seen her."
White diamond glares at Spinel in suspicion. "Hmm, are you prepared to say that with your hand on a stack of interpretive dance quarterlies?"
"Of course I am-" Spinel recoils in shock, "what're you saying?"
"Me?" White Diamond says innocently, touching her sternum with a polished black nail. "I not saying anything that would matter to any gem who would be able to take a lie detector test!"
"Oh, you're saying sumthin!" Spinel clenches her teeth.
"Stars, no." White laughs scarily, "It's just that my pearl has gone missing, and you hang out with her all day!"
"Are you accusing me of sumthin?"
"Well, the way I see it is there are three possibilities." White explains. Spinel's eyes narrow.
"One, you stole her. Two, you stole her. Or three - you stole her!!"
Spinel bunches up her fists, "I didn't steal ya precious pearl!"
"Show me your hands." White says, cooly.
"What?"
"I want to see empty gloves."
Spinel jumps at White Diamonds and squeezes her eyes with her angry hands. "Here! Here! Here! See 'em?!" She springs off of White's shoulder and stomps out of the courtroom."
White rubs her eyes, "you, you can't do that to me - I'm your diamond!"
"Not anymore, White. I quit!" She punches Yellow Pearl in the gut as she stomps by, then sprints out of the palace.
"I'm outta here." She yells from afar.
"You're making a mistake" Yellow Pearl splutters, crouching on the floor in agony.
