"Wait! Jasper!" Steven puffs.
"Steven, you coming to watch?" Jasper grunts as she hoists a giant mace over her shoulder and grabs a coil of rope.
"Jasper, don't go!" He says breathlessly, bending over, hands on his knees.
                              "Why not?"
"Jasper... I saw it!" Steven draws in a raspy breath. He might have asthma. "It's big... scary... and pink!"
She shrugs gruffly, "so were you and," she looked him up and down, "we know how that turned out."
"You'll get massacred!" Steven cries, sinking to his knees.
"Steven," she looks down at him, "I'm a jasper. What you think is big, and what I think is big, are two very different things. Besides," she stares grimly into the distance, "she's got my hair. I can't let that go unavenged."
"Okay..." Steven raised his palms, "but what if the worm didn't take your hair?"
Jasper glared at him, "if the worm-gem doesn't have my hair, who does?" She growled.
Steven grinned nervously, "um, I do?"
                              "You do?" Jasper booms, "where?!"
"Um..." Steven thinks for a moment, "in my pocket...?"
"Well why didn't you just say so?" Jasper asks rhetorically, "Give it here!" She puts out her hand, expectingly. Steven purses his lips. "Come one!" She demands.
Steven reluctantly pulls it out of his pocket. Jasper looks down at him, unamused.
"Steven, that's a paper clip and a piece of string."
"No..." Steven shakes his head meekly, "this is your hair."
"Steven," Jasper says in an annoyed tone.
"How would you know-?" He blurts out, "it's always at the back of your head!" Jasper turns around and walks away. "Don't go, Jasper!" He attaches himself to her leg. Jasper pulls him off (no), "what's the matter with you, Steven?" She places him on the ground, "now, I'm going to give that thieving clump of mud a taste of my fist and there's nothing you can say to stop me."
"Oh yeah? What if I told you..." Steven thinks for a second, "🅴"
Jasper stops in her tracks and turns back to him, blinking once, "well, I'll admit, that slowed me down, but I'm still going for her."
Steven makes an indistinguishable sound of pain, "you know, hair's overrated." Jasper ignores him. "Let's just forget about it and go home." Steven continues.
Jasper crouches down and examines the tunnel that the Alaskan Gem-Worm burrowed. It goes miles deep underground at about a 130° angle. Jasper looks down into the abyss and she swears she could see a faint red glow.
"I've got ice cream!" Steven tries to distract her. "Have you ever had ice cream before?"
                              Jasper ignored him.
"Jasper," his voice cracks, "Jasper, I am your diamond, and I forbid you to go after this gem!"
                              "You're not my diamond."
