It was time I had to get to my first class for which I had to rush. I occupied the only table and chair available which was in the fourth row and settled down. I looked around the class, the faces who I was surrounded with, and realized I wasn't acquainted by any. I opened Instagram and just started scrolling through my feed when all of a sudden, I heard the sound of a familiar voice.
"Hey, Skylar?"
I looked up, shifting my eyes from my phone screen.
"Caleb? Oh my goodness!
"Is this seat taken?"
"No, so you may sit!"
"Thank you", he said, while sitting on the chair beside mine.
"May I ask what is the cause of your surprise?" Caleb laughed. "You've already known me for so long."
"It's not like I had known I'd meet you here, again, in Stanton."
"Well, I wouldn't go anywhere else, wouldn't transfer. So you were bound to see me here. How have you been anyway?"
"Doing just well. Excited about today, being back here again. What about you?"
"I'm not as excited. It's just the normal. Except yeah, didn't know you'd be coming."
I giggled. "So, you chose this English class?"
"Yeah, I wanted to continue studying literature and the languages offered were French, Spanish and English. So, may as well study English!"
Caleb then started telling me about how he spent his summer with his dad in Rock Hill.
I felt a burst of hormones through my body as I watched him speak. I observed his slender physique and charming face and somehow, felt a sudden connection with him.
Soon enough, our English teacher, Miss Samantha walked in.
"Hello! Good morning Class of 2019!"
"Stop the noisy chatters amongst yourselves. It's time we have a group discussion and get familiar with each other."It was during the on-going English lecture when I got distracted by the fine guy with a chiseled jaw sitting right next to me. I thought to myself, "Oh, Holy Gods of the Heaven, he is so appealing and charming and his words are so crisp. Is he the one? Is he who shall de-virginize me? Would he wanna do it with me? Am I even ready for this?"
Then the bell rang and put an end to my vivid but farfetched daydream.
I said to Caleb while collecting my worksheet from Miss Samantha, "You know what, I expected a lot of things today but I didn't know I would talk to my best friend's ex here."
"So you still see me that way?" he said lowly.
I could not figure out how to respond to that so I remained silent with a plain face. Rachel and Caleb had dated in freshman year yet, I had never had a real conversation with him. I knew much about him but only through Rachel.
"Okay, let's do this. You think of me as Caleb - my friend from the next second onwards...and not as Caleb - Rachel's ex", he squeaked.
"Sounds interesting." I snickered. "Then you too have to see me as your friend and not Rachel's."
"I've never even thought of you that way. I've always seen you as something more just than my ex's friend."
My dialog with myself began again. "Did he just flirt with me? Is he into me?" And soon, a realization struck upon me. "Does crushing on him mean breaking the sis-code too?"
"Skye, you okay? You look little confused." asked Caleb.
"Oh, no. I'm fine, I was just- uh, I gotta go." I replied and hastened out.
"Skye, I was thinking-"
"No, not now. I'll talk to you later Caleb, I need to hurry!"
I rushed through the corridors as fast I could to Rachel's classroom.
"Rachel? Rachel?" ...
