Kaneki's POV
I sat my now empty coffee mug down on the nightstand beside me and lay flat on my back in bed, staring up at the ceiling. It was now pretty dark outside now, and stray streaks of moonlight flit past my curtain to the floor and random parts of the wall. It felt peaceful, in a way.
Sebastian and the young master was supposed to attend the funeral of the woman in red earlier, but because of me they had ended up being late. I think they referred to her as Madame Red? I still feel a little bad about it, but i'm sure i'll get over it eventually.
I finally start feeling drowsy and begin to fade in and out of sleep. But not before something caught my eye. At first i thought it was just merely my imagination, I was half asleep after all. But when it shifted, all signs of drowsiness left and i was immediately on high alert.
"...What the hell...is that...", I mumbled to myself wide eyed, feeling the sudden dread of ever being born.
Whatever it was was black and covered my whole ceiling and didn't seem to have and actual form? It was a ball of darkness that had two black eyes that seemed to almost suck all of the light out of the room.
Somehow the eyes seemed even darker than its already pitch black physique. And what i'd guess to be its skin looked like it would fall off at any given moment. If there were such a thing as liquid or liquidy type skin, then this thing had it going.
The more I looked at it, the more intimidated and frightened i began to feel. I cant believe i ever complained about ghouls and being scared of them when i was still human. That was nothing. I'd gladly go back to that if the past me could see what was happening right now. Because i was scared, that much is true, but what i'm feeling right now doesn't even begin to compare to that.
This...this was pure and genuine fear.
I closed my eyes momentarily to try and calm my heart rate down and just overall trying not to panic. This world has been making more and more of my emotions come back to life that i thought i had permanently snuffed out, or at least nullified. Guess i was wrong.
soft sigh
'I just can't get a break' I thought
I opened my eyes again, but i didn't see it.
"Damnit! I knew i should've just kept my eye on it!" I yelled
I shot up and hurriedly threw the covers off of myself and jumped out of bed. I was going to try and run out the door and yell for Sebastian, but my windpipe closed and my body froze the moment my feet came in contact with the floor, and i began silently panicking all over again.
I didn't look when i jumped out of bed, had i been more careful i probably could've been out the door by now, but here i am frozen in place. Not wanting to move or look down to see what i was stepping on. I mean, i already knew what it was without looking, and thats exactly what had me frozen in place. I tried to be as still as possible, even though i already knew i was screwed.
It was disgusting. It felt like i stepped onto moist pizza dough. I had previously thought it didn't have any bones, but i could currently feel every last one of them shifting and rearranging themselves underneath my feet. It was enough to make bile rise in my throat and threaten to vacate my mouth.
I couldn't use my kagune either. It's the same as when i was first brought here, and the damned thing started spreading up my legs. It had already gotten to my knee on one of my legs and restricted my movements even more before continuing to spread upwards. My left knee was still bendable for the time being. I just need to try and will my leg to move.
I began shuffling towards the door when i felt a weird movement on my foot and ankle. Some of the moonlight was shining on my leg and the monster had dispersed itself around it. My eyes widened at the sudden realization.
'I just need to get to the light switch!' I thought frantically, but when the creature finally got over my left knee, my body took a few steps backwards.
'no, No, NO, NO, NO!' I mentally screamed
It was currently on my chest and seemed to be picking up the pace, engulfing my body quicker than it had moments ago.
I hear something like footsteps and i see a light glowing from the other side of the door.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
"Hey, are you alright in there? ", Bard said, "Thought i 'eard you yellin and figured it wouldn't hurt tu check on ya. You alright?"
'Oh dear god Bard, just OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR'
"Ello? Well, im comin in. Dont want another incident like last time...."
'Hurry...'
It was up my neck and going across my face. I could no longer move my arms or my mouth.
He cracked open the door and stuck his bright candle and his head through the opening to find me covered in small scratches, because of the monsters bones, standing awkwardly beside my bed shaking with blood running down my leg and tears down my face.
I had never felt more ashamed of myself. How frail i must've looked in his eyes. I likely looked like a rabbit in a bear trap. But thats exactly how i felt. I was currently a large piece of fragile glass that had a detailed array of cracks to decorate it. And when Bard tried to ask me if i was okay?
It shattered

This only ended up being about 100 - 150 words longer than the last chapter so i'm sorry about that, but hey. That's a bombass way to end a chapter so i took the opportunity and ran with it. Hope you liked it! And please like the chapter! Also, i had procrastinated, so i used last night and today to write and proofread it, as well as going back and adding in more detail and larger words. So yeah, please enjoy, my eyesight is fucked.
