The moment I arrive in the store, I see her face.
She's in the back of the line, millions of small wrinkles on her forehead. She looks irritated.
Shit.
I hurry towards the white door with the text 'employees only' written with black letters on. When I step inside, I come face to face with another girl.
"Hi, sorry I'm late" I say, shrugging my jacket off. "It was really hard coming here with all the rain and the traffic"
"It's okay" she says, tilting her head slightly to the side. It's the first time I actually have heard her voice, and boy, she has that really nice one.
"Calum, in case you forgot" I say, running a hand through my black hair.
"Paige" she slightly smiles, jumping down from the table. She's quite short, reaching just a little bit above my shoulders. "And I didn't forgot"
-
"Yeah, okay, so you just take the order, write what they want and their names down and then pass it to the person making the drinks" I say, throwing another glance towards the girl in the line. "You got it?"
"Yup" she nods, taking the pen from my hand to handle the next costumer. "Ex girlfriend, or what?"
"Huh?" I look down at her.
"That girl you can't stop glancing at with the most anxious eyes I've seen in years"
"Oh" I chuckle. "Worse, actually. She's a costumer who wanted my number, I kind of told her to check her mug but I just wrote down my best friends number"
"Oh" now it's her turn to let out a chuckle.
"He's single and desperate" I quickly explain.
"So I assume you're married with three kids and a dog then?"
"Who said anything about a dog?"
She laughs, passing the note to another employee, smiling towards a new costumer. "No, but seriously, why didn't you give her your number?"
"I don't know" I admit. "Too young, I guess"
"She looks about 18, that's not young"
"I'm 22"
"And I'm 20, glad we sorted that out"
"Anyways," I say, starting to walk. "We will have to clean the tables now"
Someone takes the cash register, and I make my way towards the staff room, grabbing everything we need.
"Okay, so you can just take this and clean all the empty tables, and I'll collect empty mugs and stuff" I say, handing her the things she needs. The I grab a plate, starting to pick up empty mugs.
"Hi"
I look up, guessing it's me the person is referring to. It's her..
"Eh, hi..?" I slowly say, trying my best to make it sound like I don't recognise her.
"Calum, right?" I nod. "You don't remember me, do you?"
"Sorry, not really"
"I'm holly" she says. "I was here Friday, you said you'd give me your number, but the number I got was to some dude called Ashton"
"Oh, yeah, he needs a girlfriend"
"Well, he seems sweet, but-"
"Hi" Paige's voice interrupts holly, popping up next to me.
"Hi..?" Holly raise an eyebrow towards her. "And you are?"
"Paige" she smiles. "Calum's girlfriend"
"You have a girlfriend?" Holly turns her eyes towards me, looking rather furious.
Apparently I do. "Uh, yeah..."
"Since three months back now" Paige smiles, happily ranting about information holly certainly does not want to know. "And you are?"
"About to leave, actually" she excuse herself, hurrying outside.
"So now we're dating, huh?" I ask, turning to face Paige. "That escalated quickly"
"Ha ha, I saved you from the stalker girl" she rolls her eyes, a smile playing on her lips. "You should thank me"
-
"So how was your day, baby?" I softly ask, scooping some water over Riley's head. I'm currently giving her a bath, trying to talk to her to distract her from the water rubbing down her face and towards her eyes.
"Good"
I grab the shampoo, massaging it into her brown hair. "Yeah, was Michael nice to you?"
"Yes, he gave me ice cream for lunch but I'm not supposed to tell you"
I laugh, finishing her hair, lifting her up and wrapping her small body in a towel. I sit down on the floor with her in my lap, wrapping my arms around her and placing a soft kiss on the top of her head. "How much did you miss daddy, though?"
She leans against my chest, looking up at me. "Only a little..."
"Only a little?" I pout, pretending to be sad, which cause her to giggle.
"I meant a lot, daddy!"
"Well, guess what?" I lift her up in my arms so I can easier face her. "I missed my baby a lot too"
"I'm not a baby" she whispers, putting her head on my shoulder. "Jas said I'm a big girl now"
"You are" I mumble, walking towards the kitchen. "You're growing up way to fast, miss"
"Daddy?" She tilts her little head to the side, looking up at me again.
"Yes, Riley?"
"Pizza?"
Man, she's definitely my daughter.
