4| Why

The sudden closing of the apartment door caused Noel's eyes to spring open. She glanced over at Jin, who was fast asleep, and eased her way out of bed before throwing a long shirt over her naked body. She stepped out into the living room and saw her roommate's figure slowly walking toward his room. "Tae?"

Taehyung turned around, eyes were swollen from crying, but shadowed in the dimly lit area they stood. "Yeah?" His voice was deep and raspy, wrapped tightly in sadness.

Noel sensed something was wrong and moved closer to him. "Honey, it's three am. Why aren't you with Jungkook?" A muffled sob broke through his chest as he jerked from it. Noel lifted her hand to his face, feeling the tears on her fingers. "Tae Tae, what happened? Did he hurt you?" Her heart ached from the tears that fell from him. She reached for his hand and guided him to the sofa. He immediately laid his head on her chest as his cries rippled from him. Noel sighed as she stroked his hair and comforted him. His pain pierced her.

"Honey, tell me what happened? Did you two fight again?" She whispered.

"He broke up with me. He said that he didn't want a committed relationship anymore, and he wasn't sure if he still loved me."

Noel winced from the rip in her heart.

Taehyung leaned up and met her sorrowful gaze. "Why Elle? Why would he do this? Why doesn't he love me anymore?"

Noel couldn't hold back her tears at seeing the agony of her best friend. "Oh Tae, I don't know honey, but it's going to hit him hard when he realizes what he's done and has lost you."

Taehyung shook his head. "No one will love me. I'll never find anyone to love me." He cried into her.

"Don't say that. You don't believe it, so don't say it. You will find the man of your dreams who's going to sweep you off your feet. I promise you will." Noel leaned further back into the chair as Taehyung held tight to her waist. He lifted his legs up on the sofa to snuggle more into her. Noel continued to stroke his hair and hummed him a soft melody to soothe him.

Morning dawned.

Jin exited Noel's bedroom and found her cuddled on the couch with Taehyung. He walked by and lightly brushed her hair. Noel opened her eyes to see Jin and smiled at him. "Hey there sunshine."

"Hey you." He tilted his head, staring at Taehyung. "I guess finding you hugged up with another guy who's halfway between your legs is a good reason you weren't in bed."

"I'm not your girlfriend, Jin. Do you even know how friends with benefits work? We just fuck. That's it. No strings attached." Noel reminded.

Jin made a mocking face at her. "So, is he your next meal?"

"No. He's my best friend and my roommate. His boyfriend just broke up with him." Noel explained.

"Oh." Jin's lips pursed.

Noel sighed. "Sorry. I ditched you, but he has a slight priority."

Jin shook his head. "No. I get it. You told me you are close with your roommate. I didn't think you were that close."

At that moment, Taehyung woke up and lifted to face Noel, who smiled as their eyes met. "Good Morning." She greeted. Taehyung half smiled as he glanced over to the gentleman across from them and then back at Noel. "Oh, uh, Taehyung, this is Jin. Jin, this is my roommate Taehyung." Noel introduced as she kept her eyes on Jin.

"Hi. Nice to meet you." Taehyung nodded.

"Likewise," Jin responded.

Taehyung felt a subtle dent in his chest as he observed the way Noel gazed at Jin when he turned back to her, "I should probably go to my room." He dragged himself away from the sofa and walked down to his bedroom.

Noel watched him as she stood up from the couch and stretched out from having Taehyung's massive body on her. She faced Jin, who stared at her and scoffed. "What? Why the face?" She asked.

"I was just wondering..." he began as he moved closer to her. "If you will ever look at me, the way he looks at you."
