The team was preparing to head on out of the locker room to practice their shooting when I handed out a small gift to Juan.
"Hey, I have something for you." It was a black Nike bandana, much like the one he matched with Ricci before. "Woah. Why did you even bother? Thanks, Penny!"
When I saw the nerves go away and his face managing to pull through a bright smile, it was the moment I felt searching every Nike store for that bandana was not in vain. "Thought it might bring you good luck" was the only thing I said.
He immediately took it off of its packaging and tied it around his forehead. Before he took off, I thought some words of encouragement might also do the trick.
"Hey, Juan, one more thing. Don't listen to what they say about you. Keep your head in the game, boy. Just play ball."
My words went through him like a power surge. His hands managed to find their way at the back of my neck, pulling my head towards his, tipping his forehead to mine. My senses were heightened. That wonderful, tingly feeling ran up my spine as his face got close to mine. "You're the best, my slime." He whispered, eyes closed while nuzzling against my bangs, messing my hair.
I wish that could've lasted longer but he pulled away as the boys called on him to go.
"I'll be by the bench!" I shouted.
"Cheer for me and take good photos!" He said while running towards the court, still looking back at me.
"Gotcha, man!"
