"Good game, guys!" I shouted from the bleachers as soon as I took my last shot. Pio quickly recognized the shrill voice that echoed and looked around the gym, extending his neck and lingering his eyes from left to right. At the corner, he saw where the sound came from and ran towards it.
"Yo, Penny! Nandito ka pala!" He greeted me with the utmost excitement. Same old Pio. The other guys huddled around the other side of the court to change shirts and quench their thirsts.
"Hey, P! What's up? Long time no see man." I raised my hand and slapped him with a high five.
"Tell me about it. Bakit ngayon ka lang ulit nagcover?" To be honest, I was unsure of my answer. Bakit nga ba? I asked myself.
Photography was my passion. But my life for the past few months was just not keeping up. It was a total emotional shit show. Draining. I can't even take the time to touch my camera knowing that my family's eyes were on me, ever trusting that I'll bounce back from my troubles last semester.
Though I tried my efforts in asking Javi, things have just not been aligning for me. Until Juan took the initiative to pull some strings. But this was too much of an explanation for Pio; he'll be overwhelmed. So I just came up with a quick excuse.
"Ngayon lang naging free eh. Ginawan lang din nang paraan ni Juan."
Pio let out a small laugh after saying "Oh, really?" There was an apparent smirk. Some kind of hinting in his eyes. He's giving malice. Same. Old. Pio.
"Hey, Pen! Kumusta naman register ko sa camera mo? Gwapo ba?" Ricci shouted from a far. I joked around and shouted back from the other side of the court. "Can't say dude! Tignan mo na lang!" He pouted and faked a crying face while the guys chuckled lightly.
One after the other, the guys came around, checking their pictures from my camera. "Patingin nga", said Jun. "These shots are the bomb!" Bright hyped it.
"As always naman. Pen never fails to bring it, am I right?" A voice from behind startled me. My shoulders tensed up with how close the sound was from my ears. His breath kind of brushed against the back of my neck.
I looked back to a shirtless Juan. I didn't know what to say. I was put in a very awkward place and had no choice but to result to a half-hearted insult.
"Could you please stop flexing and put a shirt on? Nakakaumay."
"Hmmm. But I think it's more like he's the one flexing you, Penny." I faked a smile, mocking Noah from his "observation" and rolled my eyes off to Juan.
