Within a short moment, the drinks we ordered came in and for the next 5 minutes, all I did was quietly sip from my glass. I didn't know if I was supposed to break the ice. It was frustrating to stare at his head buried to his phone, constantly texting someone.
Well, isn't this great? My fake date is totally ignoring me while my ex is just right beside us, maybe stealing glances and laughing inside because my date sucks.
I sighed heavily. Juan jolted up, abruptly realizing what the situation at hand was.
"Oh, sorry Pen. Just informed the guys about... this. I told them to find somewhere else to go. Sunod na lang tayo after we finish here." Juan subtly whispered, concerned about not letting the neighboring table hear us.
"Oh, ok. Great." Silence came after my reply. My fingers fidgeted and rhythmically tapped the wooden table. I cannot calm down.
Then, I noticed Juan's phone was up. He was taking pictures of me this whole time.
"Hey! What are you doing?" I gently slapped his hands down, bashful of how I may have looked at the pictures.
"Bakit? This is what couples do, right? Take pictures of each other while on a date." He said.
"I-delete mo yan. Ang pangit ko dyan."
"Hindi ah. Cute nga ng pout mo dito eh." His compliment made me blush. To hide my embarrassment, it costed him my infamous eye roll."Ok, ok. Nadelete na po. But, come on, I still want to take a decent picture of you." He pleaded.
"Dali na. Sumisilip si Mike sa atin." Funny enough, that statement completely convinced me.
A few minutes in, hindi pa rin makuha ni Juan ang "perfect" picture para sa kanya.
"Ok na siguro yan. Ang dami na eh. Puno na memory mo." I said.
He kept on saying that I should give a soft but fierce look but everytime I tried, I burst out laughing at him.
"Sige na. Please. Just one more." Pinagbigyan ko ang last shot na hiniling niya, but I ended up rolling my eyes again with a small laugh.
"Oh, this is the perfect picture." Juan said as he extended his hands and showed me the picture in his phone. But my attention and gaze was already fixed at the table next to us. Mike seemed so happy with her. He was holding her hands the entire time they were talking, exchanging laughter.
All this while I was looking at the corner of my eyes hoping we'll catch each other's. The sad truth was he never did stole glances at us. His focus was at the beautiful girl in front of him. We were just musings in the background.
