Joe was right. This place is the perfect spot, the best view of Tagaytay for sure. It's overlooking the Taal Lake and the sunset is painting the most amazing colors of orange and yellow on the sky.
As I locked the car door, I saw Penny already settled down with her arms leaning at the wooden railing and earphones plugged on. Her face glistened under the bright golden hour.
For once, can she stop being such an angel? 'Cause I'm losing control again.
I slightly poked her shoulder and asked. "Hey, what are you listening to?" That prompted her to briefly take an earbud off. She took a moment to answer, not looking so sure what to say.
"Uuhhh, you remember that playlist you made for me? Gumawa rin ako ng para sa 'yo." My eyes lit up and my ears grew large as she said that last sentence. I tried to hide my kilig. "Parinig naman." I pleaded.
She was surprised. "Hala nakakahiya!" She immediately hid and tucked away the spare earbud dangling. Like a kid about to be deprived of a beloved teddy bear, she look so worried and afraid that I'll grab and steal it away from her in a jiffy.
"Sa akin ka pa nahiya?" I asked her and ended with a slight laugh.
She reasoned out. "Ginawa ko kasi 'to for my ears only. Never imagined na mapapakinggan mo 'to."
Her cheeks started to blossom into scarlet red with embarrassment. I lost control. Hindi ko napigilan. I gently placed the palm of my right hand on her left cheek. I felt her warmth and it just became hotter as I held onto it longer.
"Akala ko ba para sa 'kin. Bakit for your ears only? No fair." I stared right into the windows of her soul. That convinced her.
She plugged in the spare earbud on my ear and pulled out her phone, showing me the songs in the playlist. "These are the songs I play when I miss you. These songs remind me of you."
I hit the play button.

As the last song was playing, Penny comfortably laid her head on my shoulders and stared at the sun that was slowly drowning in the water, disappearing from the horizon. Moments later, I thought it was raining. Droplets of water were starting to wet my shirt and soon I realized they were coming from the girl whose head was snuggled perfectly against my neck.
"Penny, why are you crying? Are you alright?" I asked her.
"The sunset's just beautiful."
