After Philo class, I dropped by the dorm to get my packed bags for the trip. Hindi pa rin ako tinatantanan ni Juan sa pangungulit. Message nang message kung nasaan na ako. When I reached the parking lot where the bus was, someone shouted from behind.
"Hala Penny, ikaw ba 'yan? You gonna join us in the bus?" It was an excited Noah. And then Will came along saying, "Hulaan ko. Si Juan nagyaya, ano?"
I scratched my head, acting a bit shameful. "Pinagbigyan ko lang. Ang kulit eh."
Javi quickly passed by ahead of me as I was about to board the bus, overhearing the conversation. "Sus, pinagbigyan daw." He said mockingly. So I slapped his backpack hard and made an annoyed face. He just laughed it off.
Because of that, the boys started to tease me all together with each step I took further. I sighed and shook my head. When I lifted my gaze, I saw Juan waving his hand at me, signaling me to sit beside him.
I thought it was a very bad idea so I just smiled when I went past him and placed myself at the far back with no seatmate. I plugged my earphones on and started to doze.
"HAY, BAKIT BA ANG PABEBE NG MGA TAO?" Ricci shouted, pretending it was just a random outburst of thought. But he quickly emphasized he was pertaining to me as he stared at my direction. Everyone laughed. Sinadya niya talagang sumigaw para marinig ko with my earphones in. Pero hindi ako nagpatinag.
I smiled back at him and rolled my eyes as I went back in my zone.
Kakalagpas lang namin sa UPTC pero hindi na agad nakatiis si Juan Gerardo. At the corner of my eye, I watched him inch closer to my seat. I made sure there was no eye contact up until he just stood there waiting for answer. "Pen, can I sit here?"
"Bakit? Is there something wrong in your seat?"
He was about to make up an excuse when Jaydee exclaimed. "Bawal po tayuan dito, ser!" That made everyone burst into laughter again. I had no choice but to let him sit. However, I insisted he take the window seat.
He noticed the track I was playing on Spotify and made small talk. "You listen to Miguel?"
"Yeah, why?" I asked.
"Well, I like his songs too." He said.
Awkward silence.
I was quite taken aback when he abruptly reached for my left earbud. "Can I?" He asked. Before I could even disagree, he had already plugged it in his ear. Out of nowhere, he also took my phone and searched for his profile on Spotify. I was about to snatch it away from him when he selected a playlist entitled...
Penny.
"I told you I had a surprise, di ba?" He pressed play. "Hope you like it."
