A Family Once More

After the long-awaited reunion, I explained to them that it was my idea. Surprisingly, my dad was not mad at me for it. I say this because I'm sure you remember the last time I did something behind his back. I guess he was OK with this one, especially since it was him meeting his thought to be dead wife (I guess that went under a pass in his book).

Anyway, after a while, my dad and I were about to leave my mum's when he invited her to come and celebrate Christmas with us. I could see the shock in her face, unsure about what to say. Eventually, she said that she wasn't sure, and she would have to think about it. My dad gave her our address and we left. Since then, I held on hope that she would come, knowing it would be the icing on an already amazing cake.

Once we left, I went with my dad and headed back to Berk. And as if time decided to speed up all of a sudden, Christmas had arrived. A Christmas that I will never forget.

My dad and I opened presents in the early morning hours of Christmas. While I got my dad a pair of his favourite brand of jumpers, he got a collection of engineering books. I even got Toothless some new toys to play with. Throughout the rest of the morning, I got texts from my friends, wishing me a merry Christmas and even a call from Astrid, who also thanked me for her present that I got for her, which was a necklace with a skull like design (which she still wears today).

The afternoon arrived and we began cooking food for our Christmas dinner. Gobber was on his way to our house, so the portions were more than if it were for the two of us. But while I was indeed expecting Gobber, I was hoping my mum would come as well. She didn't give us a call to let us know she was on her way, but I still hoped she would change her mind and come over.

As I was peeling the potatoes and my dad was preparing the chicken, I heard our doorbell ringing.

"Ah, must be Gobber." My dad mentioned. "He's a bit early, don't you think?"

"I guess so, but that just means more help in the kitchen." I commented, which made him chuckle. I smiled as I put down what I was doing and headed to the front door. I peaked through the peephole and smiled. I opened the door, revealing Gobber behind the door.

"Hey, Gobber." I greeted.

"Hiccup! Good to see you again." He exclaimed before giving me a hug. "Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas." We pulled away and I allowed him to come inside, closing the door behind me. He headed to the kitchen where he greeted my dad. He then began helping us with the cooking as well when about ten minutes later, the door knocked.

"Huh. Might be the neighbour, maybe." Gobber suggested.

"Maybe..." I said, not convinced that it was before heading to the door again. I peeked through the peephole again and froze. Then, a big grin appeared across my face as I slowly opened the door. Behind the door, as I hoped, was my mum.

"You came." I said quietly. She nodded with a smile. I collided with her, giving her a big hug to which she returned.

"Merry Christmas, mum." I whispered in her ear.

"Merry Christmas, son." She whispered back. After a while, she walked inside the house, looking at awe around our house.

"Hey, dad! Guess who's here?" I shouted as I took her coat and hanged it. My dad walked out of the kitchen, stopping just at the entrance as he saw her. His eyes wide with shock and a smile on his face.

"Who's is it, Stoick?" I heard Gobber ask. He walked out, stopping as well when he saw my mum. Then, a laugh escaped his month as he walked up to her and gave a big hug.
