It's almost been a year since you had last seen Lena. School was on a break and you really had no one to visit. Kayla, had wanted you to come visit her family but you didn't want to intrude so you declined.
When Kara had sent you an invite to her Christmas party, you wanted to decline. You weren't sure how you would react if Lena was going to be there nor did you have any idea what she would say or do after finally seeing you after all those months.
Kara had apparently figured what you were thinking of that she quickly added in that Lena was going to be okay with you going. She had asked Lena, three times if it was okay to invite you and all of those three times, she said it was okay.
"Are you sure, Kara? What if she's only saying that because she hates telling you no."
"Are you serious? You and Lena are still doing that letter and message thing. I doubt she is only saying it's okay because she hates telling me no. But it doesn't matter. I'm not taking no for an answer. I already put down that you were coming and we're already planning the entire part for 9 people. You can't back out."
"Fine. I don't even know why you asked me if you had already decided for me."
"You know you love me."
"Unfortunately."
She ignored your comment and continued telling you about the party.
"We're doing a gift exchange and you ended up getting Lena."
"Why do I have a feeling that I ended up getting someone else but you switched me with someone else"
"Nonsense. That sounds ridiculous. Anyways, Lena arranged for her private jet to pick you up by the end of the week so be ready. I'll send you all the information. I have to go but please call me later if you have any questions."
"What do you mean Lena is sending her private jet?"
You never got a reply as Kara had already hung up.
That's why you found yourself at the mall the very next day in search of Lena's perfect present. You had enough money saved up to buy her something decent but yet you couldn't decide what to get her. Everything seemed to dull compared to the things she would send you every week.
Several stores later and you ended up finding the perfect presents for Lena. You quickly paid for them and headed back home.
You picked them up the next day and went back home to pack up for the trip. You knew it wasn't going to be as cold as Metropolis so you only packed what you had worn from your last visit to National City.
As per Kara's instructions, Lena had hired a driver to pick you up and take you to the airport.
When you took a seat in the empty plane, it brought you back to the time you had flown to National City with Lena. It made you as well as made you miss her. You hadn't realized how much you had missed her since you would often bury yourself in work to avoid thinking about it.
"You made it!"
Kara had been standing near the exit when you had arrived. You couldn't help but be disappointed that Lena wasn't here.
"Well it's nice to see that you missed me too."
"I did miss you too Kara."
You pulled her in for a hug and let her lead you to a car similar to the one Lena's driver used to pick her up.
"Lena would have come but she had gotten stuck at the office."
You nodded at the excuse and stared out the window as the driver made his way to Kara's apartment.
The rest of the evening was spent, helping Kara finish decorating and baking for tomorrow. Technically, you did all the baking and she decorated but no one was counting.
"I'm so excited to have everyone come. It's been so long since we've gotten together. They all really miss you, (y/n)."
"I missed them too."
Alex had been the first to arrive with Kelly. Alex hugged you and introduced you to Kelly. She was followed by Winn, James, Nia and Brainy. They had all greeted you with warm hugs and smiles. Although you were glad to be back, you couldn't help but wonder where Lena was.
"You know Lena. She's always fashionably late."
Kara told you when she noticed you getting worried that Lena still hadn't shown up an hour later.
"I'm so sorry! I managed to drop the wine and I had to go back to my place for another. I couldn't come here empty handed and the traffic was just terrible. I didn't miss anything, right?"
"Not at all. Come on. We're just getting started."
Lena had greeted everyone and then turned to Kara when she didn't spot you.
"Restroom."
She whispered.
You didn't even need to go. When you first heard Lena's knocks, you rushed inside and had refused to come out despite Kara's insistent texting. You realized that you weren't ready to face Lena. Coming here was a mistake.
"Are you okay?"
A voice, you hadn't heard in so long was asking you.
"I'm fine. Just had to fix my makeup."
There was literally no other place to go. You took a deep breath and came out of the bathroom to find Lena standing before you.
She was as gorgeous as ever and it everything in you not to lean in and kiss her.
"You look beautiful."
"So do you."
She gave you a smile and took your hand.
"Come on. We're all waiting for you to start dinner. Kara was just seconds away from knocking her door down and dragging you to your chair."
You laughed at her words and suddenly felt a thousand times calmer.
The dinner was successful and you thoroughly enjoyed yourself. The gift exchange was next and you couldn't help but be nervous as Lena got your present. You held your breath as she opened it, waiting to hear that she hated it.
"I love it!"
You gave her a smile and watched as she asked Kara to put the necklace you had gotten her. It wasn't as expensive as the jewelry that you had gotten her but it held meaning. The necklace had an engraving of the exact date when you first kissed.
"Thank you, (y/n)."
"And last but not least, (y/n), this is yours."
You knew exactly who had given you this. Lena was such a perfectionist that she was the only one that could wrap a present like this.
"Lena, this is beautiful."
She had framed a picture of your first official date with you. You hadn't even realized that she had taken a picture of you in that moment. It made you smile at the memory of it.
The rest of the party went without a hitch and soon enough, it was only you, Kara and Lena.
"Well I'm going to sleep. Feel free to stay over Lena. I'm sure, (y/n), wouldn't mind sharing a bed."
You blushed brightly at the implications and then shook your head at the images that were forming.
"I could lend you some pajamas."
"I would stay but I don't think it would be a good idea. Thank you again for the necklace. I truly did love it, (y/n)."
She walked to the front door, stopping to turn around and face you.
"You're still the only one for me. I've never looked at anyone else."
She said before leaving.
Graduation could not come soon enough. Just another semester and you would be transferring to National City's medical school to be near Lena. You thought that you could handle the distance but after spending a year apart, you couldn't take it anymore. You needed to at least be near her.
