Exhaling, I collapsed back onto the bed and laughed, "Wow."

"Yeah, wow." Alex took deep breaths beside me and pulled the covers over his otherwise nude body.

Sunlight poured in through my window as my phone went off. Reaching over to my bedside table, I read the message. Seconds later, I felt a weight on top of me and small kisses being placed on my neck. "Round two?" Alex asked.

"More like round five." I joked, making reference to how many times we had had sex since arriving at my house the night before. Alex pulled me down onto the bed from my leaned over position and started to crawl on top of me. "No." I giggled and tried to push him off, "A gas tanker crashed. Owen texted. He needs me, like, now."

"Don't talk about Owen." Alex started to trail kisses down my stomach, "Just stay in bed."

I let out a small moan but used every ounce of will power I had to pull Alex's head back up again, "Sorry, but it's still no. I need to go, and you probably should, too."

I gave Alex a quick peck before shoving him off of me, grabbing my things, and heading for the shower. "Nice ass!" I heard Alex call as I entered the bathroom. Chuckling, I closed the door behind me. After turning on the shower and stepping into the warm water, I heard the bathroom door open and close again.

Before I knew it, the shower curtain was being pulled back and Alex stepped inside with me. "I'm serious!" I told him, "I need to get ready."

He nodded and stepped closer to me, "Yeah, I know. Me, too."

With that, he pushed me out of the water and stepped in himself. "Asshole!" I yelled and started to fight him for the water.

Rushing into the hospital, I changed into my scrubs before running down to the E.R. to get a disposable gown. "The tanker did not blow," Owen told a group that surrounded him. "Don't look so disappointed."

Following Owen and the rest of them out to the ambulance bay, the first paramedic approached as he got out of the ambulance, "Cam Miller, restrained passenger in a vehicle T-Boned on its side. Vital sign's stable. G.C.S. is fourteen. He's been disorientated."

The paramedic opened the back of the ambulance and the smell of gas instantly filled my nose. "Whoa!" Bailey stepped back as we began to cough.

"Yeah, the tanker's been leaking gas all over the road." the paramedic told us as he got the patient out of the back on the stretcher, "We did a primary decontamination on scene, but we had to get him outta there."

"Okay, no open flames, no smokers, no use of cauteries." Owen announced, "Be safe, people."

Rushing inside with Bailey and Webber, Owen stayed behind to get the other patients. We got our patient, Cam, into an E.R. bed before Bailey tried to check his heart.

"Hey. Hey." Cam resisted and pushed the stethoscope away, "Hey! Where's my sweatshirt. I want to step outside for a smoke."

"Yeah, sure, if you wanna die," Bailey told him.

"Sweetie, I don't need a lecture from you-" Cam snapped.

I looked to him, "She means you're covered in gasoline, sweetie."

Webber nodded, "Now sit your butt back down."

Owen walked over to us as we started the exam, "Well, if he checks out, let's make room, okay? We need the space."

Nodding, I started to inspect the cuts on Cam's face. A few minutes later I moved onto another patient when a distant explosion could be heard and the whole hospital shook. "What the hell was that?!" April yelled.

"The tanker must have blown." I heard Owen say.

"FIRE!" someone from outside called as we saw Cam run past the ambulance bay doors with his upper half caught on fire.

Webber scoffed, "I guess he went out for that smoke."

"Call the burn unit. We're gonna need a gurney." Owen announced as Cam fell to the ground.

Bailey and Webber went outside to collect Cam and Jackson met them inside to deal with him. "Everybody, listen up." Owen stood at the front of the E.R, "We're gonna be receiving more patients. So buckle up. This is gonna be a long day."

Running past him, April and I met the paramedics as they brought another victim in. "Elyse Cruse, thirty-seven weeks pregnant, hypotensive in the field, with abdominal bruising and second degree burns on her right arm." the paramedic said as he pushed her over to an empty bed.

"Page O.B." April called before turning to the woman, "I'm Dr. Kepner and this is Dr. Forrest. Can you tell me your name?"

"My name's Elyse." she responded, "Elyse Cruse. But I don't care about me. Please just do whatever you can to save my baby. Just save my little girl."

I leaned down to her, "How about we save you both?"

She nodded, "Yeah, that would be great. Could you call my husband?"

Nodding, we got her into the bed and we got her set up before we started the exam. "Abdominal tenderness to palpation," April told the nurses as she removed her gloves.

I turned to the monitor as it began to beep erratically, "Damn it. She's having decels. Her B.P. is dropping. Okay, Elyse, stay with me. Okay? Just try to stay with me."

"Is my baby okay?" Elyse asked as she gasped for breath.

April looked down at her, "We're gonna roll you on your side right now, okay?"

"You can hear my baby's heart?" Elyse started to panic.

"Try not to worry." April glanced to the nurse, "Page O.B. again. Right now. Ugh. Come on, come on! Where's O.B.?"

"What's happening?" Elyse asked.

"Kepner, she's bleeding." I heard Alex call from the patient he was treating a few beds over.

I looked down and sure enough, the back of her gown had blood on it. Alex walked over and took a look at it, "Cord's prolapsed. We need to secure it."

"What is happening?" Elyse asked again.

"Your baby's umbilical cord has dropped, and it's now trapped against her body, and that's why she's in distress," April answered.

Alex looked to Elyse, "Ma'am, we need to keep the cord inside so your baby doesn't lose any more oxygen. To do that, I'm gonna have to place my hand inside. I'm really sorry, but it's gonna hurt a lot, okay?"

Elyse nodded slightly, "Did you call my husband? Where is my husband?"

April looked down at her, "I did. I called him. Hold my hand."

"Okay." Elyse agreed, but began to scream as Alex inserted his hand, "Ahh!"

"We need to get this baby out." Alex said, "All right, where's O.B.? Tell them to meet us in the O.R. now!"

"Right away." a nurse paged O.B. again.

"Elyse, we're going to surgery right now to take care of you and your baby." I told her, "Okay?"

Taking a deep breath, I stepped away from the bed as Alex rolled Elyse towards the elevator. As soon as I let go, the craziness surrounded me again and it felt like I was needed everywhere. Being a Trauma surgeon sure was exhausting sometimes.
