Every Halloween we make a choice about what kind of costume we're going to wear. Something sexy...maybe we'll be someone scary...or you could be a superhero, which is what I'm trying to be this year.
"Hey, kids. You got any Halloween plans?" Callie walked up to the desk that Owen, April, and I were standing at.
April nodded, "Yeah, Matthew's having a thing. I'm going as a bunny."
"Ohh." Callie smirked, "Playboy?"
"Uh, velveteen." April smiled.
"Needs work," Callie told her.
I looked up from the chart I was filling out, "I might be going to Meredith's little get together tonight for the kids, but nothing is set in stone."
April giggled, "You don't have a kid yet."
"I'm preparing," I told her.
"How about you, Lone Ranger?" Callie turned to Owen, "Are you and Emma going out?"
"Uh, Emma and I are no longer a thing." Owen chuckled at his nickname.
"What?" my eyes widened, "Why?"
Owen shrugged, "Well, it's just too soon. I'm not ready."
"Yes, you are." Callie encouraged him.
"Emma doesn't think so, because I never mentioned being married before." Owen told us, "She said, 'call me when you're ready.'"
"You're ready." Callie sighed and turned to April and I, "Don't you think he's ready?"
I nodded, "Absolutely."
"Well, maybe he's ready, but he's not ready to call," April suggested.
"What's the difference? He's ready." Callie looked to Owen who was walking away, "You sh...Mm. He's not ready."
I shook my head, "Not ready."

"Victor Brown." the paramedic said as she brought in a man with cuts and scrapes all over his face, "Thirty-year-old male mauling victim. Vitals are stable."
"Let's get him to Trauma." April said as her, Jackson, and I walked with the stretcher into the E.R., "What mauled him?"
"He-he tackled me." Victor gasped, "He came out of nowhere."
Jackson raised an eyebrow, "Wait. Who is 'He' ?"
"The guy." Victor replied, "He was snarling and growling."
I looked down at him, "I'm sorry. A person did this to you?"
Victor subtly nodded, "He started eating my face like some sort of..."
"Zombie?" Leah asked as she walked by to attend to the second man who came in. The so-called 'Zombie.'
A loud scream rang out through the E.R. as we got our guy into a Trauma room. Running out, I saw the zombie man biting into Leah's neck. Owen and the paramedic pulled the psycho off of Leah before they admitted her to have her tested and to clean out the large bite mark.
"He didn't die." Victor lisped as Jackson injected him with a numbing agent around the large and very deep bite mark on his cheek, "They shot him in the heart twice and he didn't die. I thought he was just crazy."
"He was just crazy," Jackson told him.
Victor turned his head and Jackson quickly removed the needle. "Then why didn't he die?!" Victor asked.
"I've got a needle right next to your face." Jackson told the obviously freaked out man, "I need you to calm it down, okay?"
"Is there any pain elsewhere?" I asked him, hoping to get his mind off of the monster that attacked him.
"It's just sore." Victor answered, "And stiff. Oh, my God. Is this Rigor Mortis?"
April sighed, "Victor, zombies aren't real. We know this, right?"
"You. You should..." Victor's voice became very slurred as the monitors went off, "Qua...quarantine..."
I reached down and grabbed Victor's hand. "Victor, squeeze my hand." I instructed, "Did you hit your head when he attacked you?"
"You should quarantine..." Victor kept trying to get his sentence out.
Jackson put the needle down and grabbed Victor's head, "Can you smile for me, buddy? No, he's having a stroke."
April moved her fingers to Victor's neck, "There's pulsatile mass. Could be damage to the carotid. Maybe a pseudoaneurysm."
"All right, get the ultrasound." Jackson picked up the phone, "I'm gonna book an O.R."
Jackson called down and before I knew it we were in the O.R. with an open body on the table. "Ugh! That's one jacked up carotid." I huffed.
"Yeah, let's go ahead and prep the synthetic graft." Jackson looked up.
The nurse nodded, "Okay. Starting it now."
A cell phone chime broke the momentary silence. "It's yours, Dr. Avery." one of the nurses picked up his phone, "From Dr. Edwards."
"Oh, she got eye surgery today, right?" I asked.
Jackson nodded. "She wants to know if you think she should call the...lasagna pleasant?" the nurse read the text.
"That's, like, her fifteenth misspelled text." April chuckled.
Jackson smiled, "She's scared. Tell her not to call, everything's gonna be fine, and to keep using her eye drops. You know what? And tell her that she's beautiful."
April and I stared at him. "What?" Jackson asked.
"Who are you?" April scoffed, "You were never that nice to me when I would spin out."
I nodded and laughed, "Me, either."
"Well, maybe...I'm trying to be a better boyfriend," Jackson told us.
April looked back down at the body, "No, no, it helped that you were an ass. It made me get my act together. I'm gettin' married. And I'm saving this guy's life and his face."
Jackson looked confused. "And that's all because of me." he half asked have stated. April scoffed and nodded as we got back to work.
