it was a little scary the next day in all honesty. tyler woke up to an empty bed with the covers crumpled up on the other side, half expecting a note on the nightstand saying it was a good run and that they were over but there was nothing that caught his eye. the door was open and tyler could faintly hear the tv playing, which actually caused most of his anxiety to dissipate. he was expecting josh to be gone by morning and tyler wouldn't have blamed him, he would've done the same if he was in josh's shoes. What hit him deep, though, was that josh stayed. tyler has done things in the past that has overly fucked him in the present and most, if not all, were hidden away from josh. Yeah, he wasn't in his right mind when he decided to sink his teeth in ashley's neck, he should've known it would've come back to haunt him in the future but he didn't know josh and him would be together by then. he thought josh was going to be a quick meal when he first met him but changed his mind once he got to know the boy more.
he was pulled out of his thoughts when familiar brown curls emerged from the doorway, hand curling around the frame with small hesitant hidden behind brown eyes. tyler could tell josh was still a little angry with him but tyler expected that anyways. tyler smiled though, just seeing his precious boy standing in the doorway had a sense of relief wash over him instantly.
"I'm still angry with you," josh started out with small amounts of venom laced in his voice, "but I realize why you kept it away from me." tyler gave josh his full attention then, even though josh had it from the start.
josh slowly inched his away into the room before settling down on the edge of the bed with hands tangled together, "some things are best left unknown and I know you were trying to protect me, but it just hurts knowing the person I love killed my best friend. I know you're sorry and I know you wish you could go back to change time, but...you also helped me get out of my comfort zone."
tyler raised an eyebrow at that, "because I killed your friend, I helped you?"
"well, yes and no. Ashley kind of babied me, telling me what we were going to do and when. I normally never had a say in it and it honestly bothered me. I loved her dearly, I still do but when she was gone, I got to do things by myself. yeah it was weird without her but it got me further and further out of my comfort zone." josh explained, letting tyler take his hand before continuing.
"I do still wish she was here so you guys could've properly met but it's ok. I just wished you told me sooner." it was quiet for a few minutes after josh finished, leaving tyler to process the information.
josh still loves him and josh wasn't leaving him. tyler couldn't believe it, josh has given him multiple chances to not fuck up the relationship and even though he has, josh still stayed.
josh placed a kiss on tyler's cheek before smiling, "you do realize you can talk, right?"
tyler chuckled at that and returned the favor, "I know, I just don't know what to say. I honestly thought you wouldn't have come back."
josh frowned at that but realized why tyler would've thought that. josh had gone incognito for a week without texting or calling him and josh had thought about leaving a note for the brunet to find but if Jenna hadn't been there to stop him, josh would've done it.
"I did think about it but I couldn't do it. jenna stopped me, so thank her." josh said with faint sadness tucked in his voice.
"I'll thank her the next time I see her but thank you for staying, I honestly don't know what I would do if you actually left." josh nodded at that, he didn't know what he would do either.
another silence fell through but to them it was ok. tyler sighed deeply when josh tangled his fingers in his brown tuft of hair, full-on smiling when josh crawled onto his lap and rested their foreheads together. it would be a lie saying tyler didn't miss him, in all honesty, if tyler didn't have their little small pup with him, he would've gone insane with blurry tormenting him every day. tyler couldn't sense the demon in the room and/or in the apartment, which was a little odd but tyler didn't dwell on it.
when josh mumbled out eight words with a small smile, tyler couldn't help but pin josh to the bed and attach their lips.
"I love you, ok? please don't forget that."
