Chapter 1
My red paws padded against the soft foliage. There wasn't much on the ground as summer had only just ended. That's actually the reason I was in America, Canada was far to cold for me too spend Winter in. It seemed to get colder and colder each year.

My nose itched and I stopped to rub it against my blackened red fur. I flared my nostrils as the itch didn't disappear. I stopped suddenly at the snap of a twig. My ears twitched as I perked my head up before sniffing the air. I stood still as I could be as I focused on where the sound had originated. After a moment and my lack at sensing anything, I began to walk again, trotting through the greenery.

This was the most peace I'd had in a long time.

I stopped again suddenly my ears perked as I darted my eyes across the forest, there was definetly something out there, I sensed it this time. The sounds came louder and clearer from my left, something heavy was moving fast in my direction. I darted to my right sprinting as fast as my four legs could carry me. My breaths came out quick, there was no way I could shake what was chasing me. Any second now it would catch up and I'd be lunch meat, literally.

'There!' My inner Fox senses called as I heard the rush of heavy water flow. The only way I might make it out of this alive, was to put some distance between us. I changed course and nearly fell pray in the quick turn but pushed my pace. A clearing in the trees came into view and I spotted rocks and a large rushing river. I didn't have time to wonder if I could make the jump as the thing behind me caught up.

I lepted.

I gave a yelp like bark, as I slipped, reaching the other side and scrambling to stay out of the water, my hind legs slipping off the wet rocks and nearly pulling me into the current before I finally scrambled onto the bank. I laid on my stomach puffing, I couldn't keep running the bank wouldn't put any distance between us and the creature would surely land here any moment. When it didn't I looked up to see the last thing I'd expected. A buff looking man stood on the opposite side of the rushing river. He was tall and strong with a beautiful face and dark hair. He gave a lazy grin at me before shaking his head.

"Guess I go hungry." He said to himself, though my hearing picked it up, even over the roar of the river. He turned and disappeared back the way we'd come. I blinked a few times. How had a human kept up with me. That's impossible, he musn't be human. But then what? And why had he given up the chase? I shuddered at that thought, what over here scares a creature like that, over crossing. Better proceed with caution.

I slowly climbed to my feet as I trotted off. I suppose I need to figure out where I am, too?
It's been nearly three months since I last took human form. I've gotten so used to being fox the size of a wolf on four furry legs that I'm forgetting what it's like to be human.

About ten minutes later as I was lazily walking, I came to a clearing in the trees to find a long empty road. I walked to the edge and looked both ways. No street sign, how helpful. I thought as I mentally sighed. I didn't know which way to go so randomly decide to the left. I stuck to the bushes and off the road. The last thing I needed was to be hit by a car, again.

Half an hour later I passed a large sign.
