A Twilight Paul Lahote romance Fanfiction.
Estela receives a surprising inheritance from her Great Grandmother, and it leads to some surprising discovers, about the world around her, and herself.Victoria Justice as Estela
Third Person
"It's a total of one and a half square Yard's, essentially half the town." The Solicitor stated as he spread the photos out across the desk in front of the pair. They were beautiful. A long beach of sand and rock, a hill covered in vibrant green trees and a house situated at the very top, standing alone against the wind of the Sea."But why would she leave it for me? I never met her, she died before I was even born. I don't understand." Estela asked as she ghosted her fingers across the wooden house. It was charming, and old looking.
"It was stated in her Will that her great granddaughter recieve full ownership of the land." The man explained as he looked between them. Estela looked at her Abuela confused. Why would someone she'd never met, never even existed in the same time with, leave her such a big gift.
"Wouldn't it make more sense for it to be yours Abuela? You were her only child. Why would she leave it to someone who didn't even exist at the time?" She asked as she looked at her grandmother, sitting beside her. Abuela shrugged her shoulders a small smile in place, her eyes ever full of life and child like wonder, despite her old age.
"My mother knew things, saw things. She never did anything without a good reason. Besides, I'm old deary, what use would I have for all that land?" The twinkle of her eye wasn't missed by Estela, as she squinted in suspicion at the old woman who had raised her. Her grandmother was a woman of much wisdom and many secrets. Estela had long since learned that anything she needed to know, her Abuela would tell her, and the things she withheld, she needn't worry about.
"Well what use is it to me? I've never been to Washington before, I've never left the state! I've never owned any land or housing, I wouldn't know what to do with it." She argued half-heartedly. Estela wasn't completely opposed to the ownership, but simply wondered why her, and what on Earth was she supposed to do with it? Sell it? It would definitely cover her University fees, if she ever figured out what the heck she wanted to do with her life.
"My dear. If my mother left this land to you, she left it for a good reason. But, I suppose it is up to you." Her Grandmother said with a sigh, but the mischievous glint in her eyes showed her hidden knowledge. Estela sighed and looked down at the paperwork as the Solicitor slid it towards her. She looked back up at her Abuela, still a little unsure. Her Grandmother grinned and raised a brow, both hands resting on her cane.
Taking a deep breath Estela picked up the pen and signed her name in black ink. The property was hers now. What she was going to do with all that land, she didn't know yet, but she'd figure things out as she went. Besides, she knew she'd have her Abuela's help every step of the way, as she always had.........
"Move to Washington? On my own?" Estela questioned flabbergasted as she stared wide eyed at her grandmother. Abuela shrugged and smiled like she hadn't just suggested something profound and shocking. She moved to the kitchen, using her cane for support, as she pulled a tea cup from the top cupboard and lifted the squealing kettle from the stove.
"Let's consult the leaves." She said with a mischievous grin and a wink as she poured the tea into the saucer. Estela shook her hand and threw up her hands in exasperation.
"What?! Abuela!" She complained as she followed the old woman into the kitchen in annoyance. Her grandmother had raised her to be a superstitious young woman, to believe anything and everything was possible until proven it wasn't. To remain open minded. And she had, often sage cleansing the house and always wearing her protection talisman necklace along with the small vials of Revain and Wolfsbane around her neck. Drinking tea and reading the leaves was something her Abuela had done with her on more than one occasion as well, but never for something as momentous as this.
"Sit dear. Drink."
Estela sighed and sat at the kitchen counter before gulping down the Revain tea, taking in some much needed air afterwards, used to the bitter taste of the herb despite the attempt to offset it with Lavender. Abuela grinned brightly and took the cup from her hands and looked down at it with a glint in her eye. She held it towards the light and hummed in mock seriousness, nodding like the whole ideal were very important. Estela rolled her eyes at her grandmothers antics.
"Yup!" She said in triumph as she sat the tea cup back down on the bench between them.
"The tea leaves agree! You should go to Washington." Abuela said with finality and a large grin. Estela rolled her eyes to the ceiling and threw her head back with a grown.
"Abuela" She drew out in exasperation, "We both know thats not how that works."
Abuela shook her head, her smile softening.
"I've taught you well." She paused as Estela looked back down at her, relaxing a little as she noticed her grandmothers sudden seriousness.
"I've raised you as best I can, and taught you all I could. But know it is time for you to go out on your own, learn things that cannot be taught. Your future is there, not here with this old fart." She said with a small grin. Estela shook her head and stood to give her grandmother a hug.
"You should be out there amongst people your own age, discovering who you are." Her Abuela placed her hand on Estela's chest, above her heart as she smiled up at her. Estela stared into her grandmothers eyes with uncertainty, searching for the right thing to do.
With a sigh, she pulled away and closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them, she nodded.
"Okay. I'll go to La Push."
