Night Howler

Emily screamed at the figure and the figure screamed back. Sam came barreling out of their room to protect her, Embry, Paul and Jacob following from the spare room.

"Ayana?"

Ayana is Emily, Leah and Seth's other cousin. She's Makah like Emily and out of nowhere ends up in her house, covered in blood and dirt. Problem is, the bloods not her own.

Chapter 1- Scream Bloody Murder
Third Person
Emily startled awake, like she'd heard something, but when she listened closely she couldn't hear anything. She sat up and looked to Sam, he was fast asleep. If she'd heard something, Sam would've woken. Regardless, feeling odd and curious, she quietly padded out of their room and into the hall. She walked a few steps to the spare room, where Embry lay on a blow up mattress, Paul slouched in the armchair and Jake on the spare bed, all sound asleep after a long patrol. She smiled slightly.

A movement at the end of the hall caught her attention as she saw something move in the corner of her eye. She spun quickly to the end of the hall that lead to the kitchen, dinning, front entry and lounge, but there was nothing there. She took cautious and quiet steps but halted when the floor board below her foot creaked slightly. When there was no noise or movement she continued down the hall in curiosity and fear.

She stepped out of the end of the hall, to see the front door still closed and nothing out of place in the lounge room. She turned slowly and let out the biggest shriek of her life. A figure stood before her and let out an equally freaked, female, scream.

"Emily!" Sam's voice yelled as noise came from their room and then the spare one, as the other boys woke as well. Emily in haste, slapped the light switch on the wall casting a soft white light over the figure before her. Two things became starkly apparent. One, it was her cousin Ayana from Makah, and two she was covered in blood.

The boys were at Emily's side in the blink of an eye as Sam pulled her behind him and took a protective stance before her with a deadly growl. Ayana didn't move but stared blankly at nothing, in shock. Emily placed a hand on Sam's shoulder and made to move around him, but he stopped her with an arm around her waist. Emily looked to his face and placed a calming hand on his cheek, the other boys still ready to pounce.

"It's okay. Its my cousin Ayana." She said quickly and with worry as she looked to her lifeless looking cousin. What on earth had happened to her? How had she got here? Sam's eyes softened but he shook his head and tightened his grip on her waist. He still didn't trust the girl, she smelled off.

"Who's blood is that?" He demanded gruffly as he jutted his chin in Ayana's direction. Her eyes widened slightly as she slowly looked down at herself raising her bloody hands to view. Her eyes grew even wider as she just stared at them for a moment.

"Ayana?" Emily softly called. "What happened honey?" She finished as she gently slipped out of Sam's grip and stepped forward. Sam let her a few paces closer but held her hand in his, preventing her from going any closer. Ayana looked back up meeting Emily's eyes. The moment their eyes met, Ayana's bubbled over with tears. She slid to the ground sobbing heavily and openly as tears rushed threw the cakes of dirt and blood on her face. Emily pulled her hand from Sam's and ran to her younger cousin. She wrapped her arms around the sobbing teen in comfort and worry.

"Ayana? Ayana, sweetie, what happened?" Emily questioned as the younger girl made no move to return the embrace but simply cried heavily. Emily swept her hand over Ayana's hair in a calming manner, removing the leaves and twigs that were caught in her dark tangles. Ayana's sobbing quieted slightly and she looked up at her cousin while still in her arms. Her face was a mess of dirt, both dry and wet blood, tears and snot. She looked down right aweful. She wiped her torn sweater sleeve over her nose successfully removing the snot but simply smearing the dirt and blood.

"D-da," She started finding it hard to talk threw her tears and sobs. Her breath hitched and her voice sounded nasaly. "Dad's. Dad's, d-dead." She struggled with the last word, as it came out in a higher pitched winny before she broke out in heavy tears again. Emily was shocked and looked between Sam and the sobbing girl in her arms. The boys were all still on guard but had relaxed from their fighting stances, the whole crew now more confused.

"Ayana, you need to tell me what happened, okay?" Emily said as she slowly helped her cousin stand and lead her to the couch. They sat down together, Sam sitting on the arm of the chair, a hand resting on Emily's shoulder proactively. The boys sat on the chairs opposite them, curious and worried.

"W-Well. D-dad and I-I were, were, arguing, a-and then, this-this." Ayana started slowly as she stuttered out an odd explanation, only to have a sobbing fit in the middle, crying heavily again. When she finally composed herself enough to continue, Sam became increasingly more alert.

"I-I d-don't know. A-All of the, the, sudden, h-he was, d-dead. There w-was blood e-everywhere." She said before sobbing again. Jacob leaned across the coffee table and passed her the box of tissues from it. She took them staring at the backs of her bloody hands, before wiping her face and blowing her nose a few times. Emily rubbed her back soothingly as her eyes welled up with un-shed tears. Her uncle was just murdered and her cousin was in hysterics after whittnessing it. Ayana began to shake violently as her body began to feel hot.

"Ayana, you're burning up!" Emily stressed worriedly as she felt Ayana's temperature rise threw her cloths as the girls body shook. That was all it took for Sam to pull Emily away and bark an oder at the boys.

"Restrain her!" Sam yelled as he pulled Emily behind him and backed away from the shaking girl.

"What? Sam!" Emily said in confusion as Paul and Jake both gripped one of Ayana's arms and held her standing between them. Embry crouched beside them ready to Phase and take her down if need be. Ayana's face showed confusion and distress before she stopped crying and her brows furrowed in anger.

A ferral growl rippled threw the room as Ayana's lips peeled back and her gums stretched forward, her teeth growing long and sharp as her jaw pushed forward. Her nose shifted, flatter as it followed her jaw and her eyes spread further apart, her skin bubbling like boils as it spat into black leathery skin. Her face took the shape of a wolf's as her ears pushed back and lengthened and her hair turned ebony black. Her hands bubbled black as great, long claws protruded from the tips of her fingers. She released a raw like growl as she nearly pulled from Paul and Jakes grip.

Emily looked at her in shock and fear as the boys struggled to keep her in place. Embry shredded his cloths, sprouting fur as he changed into his wolf form. He jumped between the beast and Emily and Sam with a ferral growl. Ayana returned the growl with a beastly raw as she flung Paul and Jacob off her arms and onto the floor on either side of Embry. Ayana's legs had lengthened and now led to black long footed paws with large claws. She hunched over on her hands and feet as the rest of her cloths ripped and her full form was taken. Sprouts of fur like hair covered her towering, black form. Her head remained furless, and covered in the leather skin. She was larger than Embry's wolf.

She growled at Embry as he growled back, both ready and about to spring into attack. Before either could thought, Sam tried one last ditch at avoiding conflict, he wasn't sure Embry would win.

"Stand down!" Sam called deeply as he stood in front of Embry's wolf form, facing Ayana. He spoke deeply and with authority, using his Alpha command. Ayana growled heavily at him but he stared her down, staying strong.

"Stand down." He ground out, refusing to back down. Surprisingly she began to lower her torso to the ground. Her head remained up as she continued to growl but still was lowering herself to the ground.

"Now." He said as a final push. Ayana's beast lowered its head to the ground and stopped growling in complete submission. It was all so clear now, what had happened.
