Under her wing
Today marks the fifth day since she had parted with me. Her kiss was still lingering on my lips. Her words were echoing in my ears. She is something running through my mind. I am restless. I wanted her close, but I don't know how, how I can get to her.
How can I find her, I only know that she is a doctor and nothing else? I want to search for her but every time I try there is nothing I can come up with.
I looked at my laptop. My secretary again forgot to inform me about the meeting I have with the hospital heads. I was thinking about buying that and converting it in a multi-speciality hospital. I called her and as usual she was busy. I walked out of my cabin and saw she was on phone with someone. She forgot her place here. But I don't blame her. She is getting married in few days.
"Katelin" I called. She looked at me and abruptly put the phone down. "Yes, Mr. King" She stood up. "You forgot to remind me about the meeting." She looked down guiltily. I feel bad now. I don't want to make her feel guilty. I don't wish to ruin her happiness. "It's ok Katie, can you accompany me on this meeting? I think we can talk to the baker about the wedding cake on the way back, what you say to that?"
She smiled finally. I like to see everyone who works for me, who give me their time, I give them my own and Katelin is no different. "Sure, that would be lovely sir, thank you for your concern." She whispered. "It's ok Katie you have given me five years of hard labour, I can do is give you something to remember on your special day." She nodded.
I drove towards the hospital which I suppose to meet the board. "You have informed them right and you have the file with you?" I asked. "Yes, I do sir. And I was thinking about raspberry, how about that?" I chuckled. "You can have anything you want. I will make sure the best pastry chef takes your wedding cake ok Katie?" She smiled at me again.
"Here is the file all the best Sir" Katie whispered. I wish her best wishes works in other field of my life. I wish I could see my hermosa again. I wish I could see her again. Five days I don't know how long I can take this more for. I walked in with a newfound confidence. If I can save some lives by investing in this hospital, then be it.
"Sir, this hospital id dying. As a legal advisor I would not recommend that you do this investment. I chuckled. "No one knows what being in this position means better than me. I too once been through this situation. I know exactly how it feels. How one can feel helpless. How disappointed and depressed one can be. And it was just a business. This is not a place for business here most of the people save lives, brings happiness, give hopeless a sliver of hope. How can I not invest in such a place?" I asked.
All of them were speechless. "It was my duty to give you advice about the right thing. Business is not something what should be done from heart, but from head." I smiled not getting angry a bit. He was just doing what I had hired him for. "Every business is not what should be done from head. Some place is not meant for business." I told them. "I will make sure that the renovations will begin from tomorrow. And yes, I will add few wards that this hospital needs with new equipment."
They all nodded. "Katie, please cooperate with these gentlemen and make a list of equipment that is needed right now so that I can order them as soon as we get out." She nodded. "Can I see the wards myself? "I asked the head. He nodded accompanying me. What I was even thinking? I know she won't be here. It is impossible I mean she can be in any hospital around this city, even she can be in another city or continent by now.
"This used to be the critical care unit. Once when our hospital was fully functional, there were patients and doctor all over this place. This was a centre where we have offered best health care facilities to all. I personally initiated the program where we medicated and treated all the homeless people once a week." I can hear the sincerity in his voice.
"Don't worry it will all be same as it used to be" I assured him. "Most of them left, most of them have families to take care of. And I don't blame them. I never thought it myself that our major benefactor will pull away their support just because he thought this is not profitable." I held his arm to assure that everything will be back as it was before this ordeal hit them.
"All of them left, but one was there who didn't even when she got offers from all the big places. She was here doing her duty." I am surprised that person like that exist in this time. She is definitely worth my time. "Can I meet her?" The words were out of my mouth before I can think what I said. So, when I said it then I will just comply.
"Sure, I think she is in children ward right now doing her daily rounds. You may be able to catch up there. Pardon me but I must see to it that my patients were taken care of. Can you manage it is just first one around the corner?" I nodded. "I will not keep you from your work. I will thank her myself" I told him, and he left me fending for myself. Now it is time to find this miracle worker he was talking about.
I walked towards the direction that was given by the good doctor and landed exactly at the place he talked me about. It was the children's ward and middle of that sat a girl with beautiful red flowing hairs. She was talking to one of the kids whom she had seated in her lap, and that girl was no one else but Miss Iris Morgan. Or as I call her Miss Morgan.
My hand unconsciously moved towards my lips. The taste of her lips was still somehow lingering on my lips. I cannot get her out of my mind. And that made me question my sanity. Am I seeing the real thing, or it is just an illusion yet again? I walked towards her and stopped. My heartbeat increased as her fragrance lingered around me. She smells too good to be an illusion, a trick of my mind.
The children looked at me and I smiled at them. I always liked kids. Maybe it is something me and Miss Morgan have in common. She stopped whatever she is doing. And stood up placing the little girl on her bed. Then she tied her hair up neatly. And then she stood up and walked towards me. I stood still as she came and looked me in the eyes.
She is not an illusion. No, she is not an illusion. She is here, right in front of me. She accessed me for good five minutes and I let her. I wanted to know what she was thinking about me. About all this. "How did you find me?" She asked. "I didn't it was just a coincidence that I found this hospital." I said, "And why you needed the hospital?" She asked.
"Ummm... I cut myself yesterday and I thought I might get myself checked." I said. "Come I will dress up your wound and give you tetanus shot just in case." I nodded. I followed her out of the children's ward. And she took me towards another wing. Probably her chambers. Who cares, I know I would follow her anywhere she wants me to go.
Because she had taken me under her wing long time ago. But the question is will she realize what she had done before I die because of the waiting? I don't know. I don't know anything anymore. I just know that I will do whatever it takes to let her know that what she means to me.
