(Original Chapter)
You had planned something special for Hiccup. Today was the day you'd both taken your first flight together three years ago. You wanted to be nice and you wanted to give him something to smile about. He was still lingering on the Viggo subject. You wanted him to just forget about it, even if it was only for a day.
You knew that you'd told yourself that Hiccup was off-limits, but he was still your friend. He was your first real friend aside from Nightshade and you wanted to acknowledge that. You hoped he would like it. You'd even talked to Toothless and the dragon had agreed to help you.
Now, you were setting up with Nightshade's help. You hung up some decorative lanterns on a willow tree. It was one of the only ones on the island. They were all sorts of different colors and you'd made one that looked like Toothless and one that looked like Nightshade. You hung them in a very obvious spot before taking a few steps back and admiring your work.
"That's it for the decorations. Let's get to the food, huh, girl?" She barked in agreement and you both flew back to your hut. You began to cook up a picnic for the two of you. You'd also gotten some special things for Toothless and Nightshade. You had their favorite fish and you'd stuffed Nightshade's fish with nightshade berries. You made sure to keep the two fish meals separated. You didn't want to poison Toothless.
You took the food back to the picnic area and went to go get Toothless. He was in Hiccup's hut, but Hiccup was there too. Luckily, the three of you had a plan. Toothless spotted the three of you and you nodded to him. He went up to the loft and curled up, pretending to go to sleep. Hiccup watched him.
"Tired, bud? You've been here with me all day." Toothless didn't respond, pretending to already be asleep. Nightshade went in by herself as you hid outside of the hut. You listened as Hiccup talked. "Nightshade? What's wrong?" She grumbled worriedly. "Where's (Y/n)?" She barked and Hiccup hushed her. "Well...Toothless is asleep...so you and I will go find her together. Come on, girl." You saw them take off together as they went to search for you. You snickered to yourself. The plan had worked perfectly.
You rushed in and Toothless was already up and ready to go. You hopped on his back and took off. You knew all of his gear and commands by heart. You flew him back to where the preparations were. He grumbled happily at the sight.
"Thanks, Toothless. I tried to make it look good. You like it?" He nodded, tongue hanging out as he panted happily. "Well, no time to sit here. Come on, let's practice!" You both took to the air together.
For an hour you practiced tricks and Toothless harnessed his shots to put on some special light shows. You had fun doing tricks with him. You would always love riding Nightshade more, but Toothless was an amazing dragon.
Once you finished practicing, you both rested for a bit. It also gave time for Toothless to regain all of the shots he used. After about half an hour, you heard Nightshade's roar. You knew that meant she was finally bringing Hiccup. You and Toothless hid, waiting for Hiccup to land with Nightshade. You watched from the tree cover as they did. He looked around, stunned and confused, but still in awe of it all.
"What...? Who did...?" Toothless jumped out first, tackling his rider and panting happily. You rushed out next.
"Surprise!" Toothless hopped off of him and he looked at you as you helped him up.
"(Y/n)? You've been here all day? What...what is all this?" He asked. You smiled.
"Remember what today is?" You asked. He thought about it and his eyes widened.
