Aaron kind of just stared at Claudia for a few short moments. I couldn't see his face but I could practically feel the tension emanating from his back.
"Aaron?" Claudia said carefully. "How long are they here for?" He asked. "I believe they said a month or two at the most." "A whole month?" He repeated in shock.
She nodded, seeming to understand. "I...Well, uh thanks for the heads up." He sighed. She gave him a pat on the shoulder before leaving.
He turned to look at me. "I thought your parents never stayed longer than a week?" "Yeah, they don't usually. I have no idea why they're staying longer now all of a sudden..." He mused, lips pursed.
I walked forward and wrapped my arms around his waist, waiting for him to relax. I didn't like seeing Aaron in distress.
Eventually he did relax and returned the hug with a drawn out sigh. "You should probably go, I seriously doubt you'd like to meet Mr. and Mrs. Knight today." "What about you?" I asked.
He shrugged. "I don't have to stay here, but I'll go down with you first, better chance of sneaking out that way." "Okay um, oh-"
I bent down to retrieve the box of his baby pictures. "I'm ready." I said. He smiled a little and kissed my forehead.
Aaron lead the way down the staircase constantly checking for any sign of his parents. We nearly made it to the front door unnoticed when a woman (I assumed was his mother) came out of the dinning room.
It kind of felt like she had been waiting for us. Huh. "Aaron darling, just where do you think you're going?"
In all honesty the woman was beautiful. Her dark red hair was pulled back neatly. Her clothes screamed crazy exspensive, especially the gold jewelry. Her make up looked professionally done, which, I suppose it probably was.
Her and Aaron shared some resemblance around the eyes and their lips were similar, other then that I wouldn't have guessed they were mother and son.
"Just outside mother." Aaron said in a strained tone. Her eyes raked over my appearance and I tried not to fidget.
Finally seeing Aaron's mother after hearing the things he said about her, and the way she treated him growing up, made it hard not to automatically dislike her. I didn't let that show, first impressions or whatever.
"And who might this be?" She asked, voice taking on this super cheery breeze. I wondered if she was faking it.
"This is my girlfriend Chloe, we were just leaving." Aaron said shortly and went to open the door but she raised a hand to stop him.
"Chloe is it? How very charmed I am to meet such a lovely young lady." She said warmly. Either this woman was a great actress or she genuinely meant what she said.
Judging by the quick eyeroll and shake of his head Aaron believed the first option. "Nice to meet you too um..."
"Oh I'm Katherine, Katherine Knight. You said you were leaving?" She asked addressing Aaron curiously.
He nodded slightly. "Well I sure hope it's not because of me dearest, I've always believed young love is something to be cherished at all times. I certainly don't mind if she stays-"
"Chloe has to go home now." Aaron cut in sounding annoyed. Her gaze shifted to me again.
"Alright then, if you really have to go, please except my invitation to dinner tonight." She said. I glanced hesitantly at Aaron but he was staring hard at the floor.
"I um, I suppose that would be okay." I mumbled. She grinned. "Fantastic! I look forward to getting to know you much better." Aaron opened the door and quickly pulled me outside.
