Ben Howard- Promise
"This is amazing keep going!" Daniel urged.
He followed me with every step I took, watching my movement closely.
I would leap, turn, twirl and Daniels face would narrow as he focused on the dance move I had just done.
Extra-curricular - the only class I liked."Can you do that bit again?" He asked, gesturing for me to repeat what I did.
I nodded and showed him and he imitated me until he had perfected it.
"You've got it" I said smiling and wiping my brow, beads of sweat collected along my hairline.
Even in extra curricular my main goal was practice, to work harder, stronger.
All I thought about was the audition only a few months away, I could almost touch it, it was so close."Can you show me how to do that?"
Blake asked timidly from the other side of the room, I was surprised.
He was normally quiet, he kept to himself during class."Yeah of course!" I said brightly, I was glad to help him.
I never asked Daniel much about Blake. He seemed quiet and reserved, entirely engrossed in what he was doing.
He did his thing, we did ours.It was as though we had an unspoken respect for one another, Blake danced and we danced, things were content in this way.
I always saw him as a harmless creature only here for the same reason I was - to dance. The big strong basketball player hiding in the dance hall, doing what he truly loved.
Daniel once said he respected Blake for what he did, so I applied the same. Daniel was clever in ths way."Thanks Macy"
Blake said kindly and I nodded and he began to dance again, turning and dipping practicing the move I had just showed him.I wished Eva could see Daniel, the way his slim frame moved it and the passion he showed in his face. It made my heart melt.
I wished Daniel had an opportunity in a big dance school like I did.
We finished the class sweating but satisfied with our work."Lunchtime!" Daniel whooped.
I picked up my school bag, he grabbed his and we walked out of the hidden classroom, running down the narrow staircase and ended up back in the crowded halls of our school.
I spotted Katie in the midst of the chaos, looking somewhat alone.
Her cheeks were stained pink, I could tell she had been bothered by something.
Daniel jumped in the air, waving wildly.
Katie made her way over towards us, brushing roughly against the people she passed.
The closer she came to me I realised she wasn't ok."Hey, hey, what's up?"
Daniel pulled Katie towards us his hand wrapped tightly around her shoulder.
Her face was bright red and she refused to pull her eyes from the floor."I don't want to talk about it" she managed to say.
She blinked back tears and Daniel exchanged a quick look with me.
I had never seen Katie like this, so sad and vulnerable looking.
I took her hand in mine and squeezed it tightly."Let's get out of here" Daniel said looking quickly around us.
"Are we even allowed do that?" I asked.
He shrugged dismissively."Who cares?"
He took Katie's hand and dragged her down the hallway, I followed closely by her side.
We began to break away from the crowd of people, closer to the door of the school. I could see Katie's face lightening and we smiled and made a run for the door, escaping the school and the restricting classrooms.I breathed in the air around me and Daniel took my hand in his.
We stood in the middle of the parking lot, not sure what to do."Take my car" Katie said suddenly.
Daniel looked puzzled over at her.
