Chapter twenty-seven - Well, there goes that idea.
Chaos ensued on the fighting ground. Hero against Hero. Both, determined to win this war. The sky was a dark grey and rain started to fall from the sky, the drops mixing in with the grime and blood covering the floor. Shouting and screaming ripped through the pitter-patter of the rain-filled with pain or success. Bodies falling from the sky their fight continuing on the ground.
Peter was met with a sight he never wanted to see. Everyone was fighting around him, Gatum was standing to the side his harsh stare focused on the fight before him, his hands jerking every now and then. Sweat dripped from his forehead as he focussed on controlling and keeping the illusions solid.
MJ nudged Peter's side,
"The only way to win this is to take him down." she pointed with her thumb at Gatum. He had not noticed the pair yet.
"I know." He said laying down on a piece of rubble, "Just let me catch my breath."
Even though Peter had speed healing he was badly damaged from the torture he had endured over the past few days.
"Peter, you can't do this. You're gonna get yourself killed!" MJ said, "Let me do it."
"With what powers? He's a wizard MJ, I have a better chance at winning than you." Peter argued.
"I could distract him? He'll lose control over the illusions and then the Avengers can strike." MJ said.
"And if that doesn't work?"
"It will work."
"We need a Plan B."
"No we don't, this is the only plan we have."
"I could be our Plan B?"
"No."
"Fine, but I will be our Plan B if all else fails, he could be more powerful than you think." Peter said.
"It will work." MJ repeated.
"It sounds like your trying to convince yourself than me."
"Shut up."
"Well, how the hell are you gonna distract him?"
"I dunno." MJ picked up a rock from the ground, it was a decent size, a bit bigger than her hand.
"I could throw this at his head?" She said.
"It looks like that will probably knock him out."
"Even better."
"Please be careful."
"I always am."
"Liar." Peter whispered as she watched MJ creep away from him nearer towards Gatum.
'Here goes nothing.' MJ thought to herself as she pulled her arm back and tossed the rock as hard as she could towards Gatums head.
It didn't hit his head.
Instead it hit his back, and he fell forward. It was as if it were a scene from a film, filmed in slow-motion. He cried out and illusions flickered before dying out and Gatum tried to regain his balance by swinging his arms around like a windmill. It didn't work, you heard a loud crack as his head hit the rubble in front of him.
MJ winced when he fell.
Peter crawled up clutching his side.
"Did we win?" He asked, it seemed like a too simple of a win.
