I'll Be Okay

"What'd he do now?" I ask, closing our bedroom door behind me. I'm trying not to be anxious but I can feel the tension building up in my chest.

She turns to me, biting her finger nail to hide a smile. "It's not your dad, don't worry."

She puts her arm around me and kisses my head before continuing to pace. Good news? I feel like there's always been so little of that. Thank God something good is happening.

"What is it?" I whisper getting as close to Sarah as I can to try and hear Lily.

"Thank you for the call, Lil." She runs her fingers through my hair. "And congratulations, Riley and I will have to come by next week." I can't hear anything Lily says. "Bye."

Sarah tosses her phone to the bed and kisses my forehead and cheeks over and over. "What? What did she say?" I ask, very much enjoying the attention.

"Well first Lily's news, shes pregnant."

My eyes widen and I almost yell. "A baby?!"

I have always loved babies. I don't know why, I've never been around them much, but I will love on any baby. When I was little I had dolls and everything, I was excited to grow up and have a baby. After my mom died I kind of gave up that dream though.

"What's the other news?"

"Lily got two letters in her mailbox at school today. One addressed to you," I'm confused. "And the other to her. It was congratulating her and the school for their academic achievements by one student receiving a full ride to their school."

"What?"

"Riley you don't have to stress about paying for college anymore." She takes my face in her hands. "Florida State offered you a full ride, excluding room and board but your other two scholarships will help with that."

"I got a full ride?" I can't help but stand here in disbelief.

"Yes." She nods.

"Oh my god." My heart begins to race and I kiss my girlfriend hard on the lips. It's rough and passionate and I moan against her mouth. She's biting at my lip and it feel so good but suddenly I remember. "I can't though."

"What?"

"I.. I would want you with me Sarah." I can't look at her so my eyes are fixed on the floor.

"This is an opportunity of a lifetime, baby." She pushes some hair out of my face. "I would be awful if I kept you from this."

"But-"

"No buts." She hushes me. "I'll figure it all out, I don't know, maybe get in therapy. I'll be okay."

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely." She smiles. "There's so many things about to happen, beautiful. It's going to be great."
