Rose picked up her luggage and headed out the door of the motel with her parents already waiting for her downstairs.

The cold air blasted into her face and she shivered unconsciously. She stared back inside and glanced around before sighing and locking the door behind her.

"Everything good, Rose?" her mom yelled from downstairs.

Rose peeked downstairs and gave a thumbs up, "Yeah, just locking it up."

She quickly took the keys out and went downstairs while dragging her luggage down with her. With each thump on a step, she recalled all the things that were happening to her which only contributed to her horrible mood.

"Let's get out here," her mom huffed, glaring at the administration office.

"It's not their fault," Rose sighed.

"I know, it's whoever bought this stupid motel," her mom murmured stubbornly, "I'm just mad that they would throw away this motel for some rich company. Anything for money these days."

Rose silently agreed. Anything for money.

The three of them soon turned around and started walking out the gate of the motel. All were silent, but the most worrisome of them was their dad. He had been silent the entire morning and Rose was contemplating on how to cheer him up.

They had made a rushed decision to try and catch a plane to their grandparent's house that lived a few hours away from them. They all hoped that maybe they could start over there with a support system from her grandparent's which is why they were currently trying to catch a taxi in the middle of the sidewalk.

Her mom and her had been trying to wave down any taxi but they would all pass by them. Not a single one was even so much as stopping. Not one even stopped to glance at them.

After a few minutes of trying, her mom sighed a loud and put her hands on her hips in frustration. "What is wrong with this town? First the motel, now the taxis!"

Rose agreed while her teeth started to chatter from the cold. The temperature fell well below average and the sun was no where to be seen. The wind had started to pick up as well and was seeping into their jackets.

At that moment, a bright yellow taxi suddenly appeared from the distance and Rose sucked up her clattering teeth and ran into the road waving her hands making the taxi forcibly stopped.

Luckily, the driver did stop. The tyres screeched against the asphalt and the vehicle came to an abrupt halt in front of her.

Rose sighed in relief and went over to the driver's side and gently knocked on the window. Eventually, the window slowly rolled down to reveal a pissed middle-aged man.

"Are you fucking crazy?" he sneered.

"Hi, sorry about that but every other taxi had ignored us. Can you take us to the closest airport?" she asked in a rush.

The man glared at her for a bit before he backed down and sighed. "Get in."

Rose smiled and thanked him before rushing over to her parent's.

"He can take us!" she yelled enthusiastically.

Her mom gleamed and immediately started to pull their luggages towards the cab. Rose helped and glanced over at her dad who was still standing at the pathway.

"Dad! Come on, it's cold," she shouted.

At first, Rose thought he didn't hear her because he didn't budge. So she went up closer to him and was about to tug on his jacket when all of a sudden, his body fell to the floor.
