Rose and Keenan were headed back from their appointment with the obstetrician. Fortunately, it wasn't as traumatic as last time.
"We can finally look forward to our healthy baby boy," Keenan said happily.
She was inwardly dreading this appointment for weeks, but it turned out to be good news. The doctor told them that they should expect a perfectly healthy baby this time.
Rose looked down at her stomach and put a hand to her, quite large, mound. She was already 38 weeks along and was nearly at the time to give birth.
"Are you nervous? You haven't talked much since we got out," he commented.
That was a lie. She hasn't talked much since the abortion but she figured she shouldn't bring that up anymore; she had a new life on its way. She believed it was best to live on in her memory.
"Don't worry, I have the best doctor and hospital suite ready for you so you can relax during the final week," he announced.
She ignored his comforting words and just continued to look out the window.
Her elbow was resting on the side and her face laid solemnly on her palm.
Figures zoomed by and the lights made streaks in the air. Everything blurred in motion unless she was specifically focused on it.
"—so I figured we could head over there right now," he said.
Rose blinked and snapped out of her thoughts. What did he say?
"Go where?" she asked confused.
Keenan eyed her from the corner his eye and frowned.
"The store with all the baby supplies. I figured we should get a monitor for him since he'll have his own room," he said.
"Right," she slowly replied.
He glanced at her before turning the car on the green light.
"You don't want to?" he asked suspiciously.
"No, no," she quickly defended while shaking her head, "it's a good idea."
Keenan slowly nodded his head but still kept a frown.
A minute later they turned into a carpark in front of the baby store.
Keenan quickly got out to help Rose and immediately put his arm around her waist as they walked towards the door.
The sliding doors gradually opened for them and once they entered, it instantly smelled like the shop was soaked in bleached.
Rose gagged a little and put a hand to her mouth.
"What's that strong smell?" she murmured through her pinched nose.
Keenan glanced at her and instantly bent down concerned.
"You okay? I'll ask the workers what it's about," he said with a frown.
While Rose waited outside to detoxify her burning nostrils, Keenan came walking back out.
"She said that this woman's child had recently puked all over the store. Then one of the workers saw and also puked," he said with a dissatisfied face.
Rose pursed her lips and sighed.
"Lets just leave. The fumes may be too much for you and I don't want anything happening to you when you're already close," he suggested.
