Rose was in the middle of taking out the washing and was about to put it into the dryer when she realised that there was something already in there.
Confused, she looked further inside and dug her hand inside the seemingly empty dryer to find a small cardigan that looked like it belonged to Finn.
"Did I forget to give this to him?" she murmured to herself in puzzlement.
Surely enough, it even had his name written on the tag when she inspected it.
She then held it up and gazed at it intently before discovering that one of the buttons had come loose.
"That's what happens when good quality clothes go into a $200 dryer," she muttered.
Frowning, she instinctively took the initiative and walked over to her sewing room.
There, she rummaged through her drawers to find her sewing kit and swiftly took out a new thread and needle.
Carefully, she took the needle and a string, that was the same-coloured thread as the button, and expertly slipped it through the small hole.
Once it was in, she held the needle with her mouth while tying the loose ends together to create a knot. She did it so effortlessly that one could hardly tell she was rusty after years of never putting her degree to practice.
She then promptly cut the old thread from the cardigan and started sewing on the old button.
She was careful to make sure it blended in with the original buttons and so every now and then she would hold it up to see if it looked the same.
At one point, it was a bit wonky so she cut the string and re-did the whole thing.
Only a few minutes later did she finally finish sewing on one measly button on a cardigan. Maybe an expert could have done it in a minute with even more preciseness.
When she placed the cardigan on her lap, she tilted her head with a conflicted gaze.
"At least it's straight," she sighed in resignation while staring hard at the innocent circle.
Taking a deep breath, she quietly packed everything away and glanced at her watch where it signalled the time where she needed to pick up Finnigan.
Soon enough, she made her way to his kindergarten with the cardigan in a small paper bag ready to hand it over to him once they met.
Once she saw Finnigan waiting at the gates, he beamed brightly at her and quickly ran over to her with an eager smile.
It was almost like watching a sprout shoot up with a spray of water. The sudden change in his face from a dull look to an instant happy-fest was both endearing and somehow frightening.
"Mommy," he grinned brightly while giving her a hug.
Rose abruptly rejected his hug by placing the paper bag between him and her legs.
Surprised, Finnigan widened his eyes and glanced at the paper bag with a look of puzzlement.
"What's this?" he asked.
"It's for you," she mumbled.
Finnigan looked up at her with sparkles in his eyes. One would think it was Santa giving him a present.
"For me? Really?" he asked excitedly.
Rose nodded and handed it over to him without a word.
"It's not anything new," she said while he opened the bag. "You left it when you came to my house."
