Rose sat silently at the kitchen table, her hands clasped together in front of her face.If anyone walked in, they would think that someone close to her had died since she had such a grim aura surrounding her.
However, if someone just told a divorcee that they were still technically married to their partner, then yes, she felt as though a piece of her soul died.
Before all this, she was at peace knowing that she had no more obligation to Keenan as a wife, but for her to suddenly find out she was still legally obligated to him— life just didn't seem to like her.
To break her thoughts, Keenan came through the door with a dull look from work. When he saw her, he immediately wiped the tiredness off his face and painted over a fresh new smile.
"Rose," he said happily, leaning in for a kiss.
Rose frowned before avoiding him completely and standing up from the table.
"Do you have something to tell me?" she asked seriously.
Keenan raised his eyebrows at her confused.
"What?" he said puzzled.
"I got a call from Mrs Harper today," she started, already annoyed.
"About?"
"About us still being married," she gritted through her teeth.
Rose scowled as she recalled what happened a few minutes ago.
Rose was in the kitchen, after dropping off Finn at school, when her phone suddenly rang. Glancing at it, she realised it was Mrs Harper and swiftly answered the call.
"Hello?" she said.
"Oh, Mrs Sinclair, I'm glad you picked up," Mrs Harper said with a sigh of relief.
"Actually, it's Ms Lewis," Rose corrected.
"About that..." the teacher murmured.
Rose frowned confused.
"Why? What's wrong?"
"Well, I called the Department of Marital Relations and apparently they didn't receive any divorce documents from you two."
Rose scrunched her facial expression.
"That can't be right, I signed the divorce papers and everything," she bewildered.
"Are you sure it was sent in?" Mrs Harper suggested.
"Yes, I'm sure. Keenan even told me when...I...." she said ending the sentence very quietly.
Rose suddenly panicked and realised that she never did see the divorce papers being sent.
All she remember was Ryan telling her that Keenan had signed the papers in front of him and that everything should be fine.
"Don't tell me," Rose whispered in shock.
Rose slowly brought her free hand to her hair before slumping down into the dining chair.
She couldn't believe it. Keenan didn't actually send through the divorce papers.
He had lied to her this entire time.
"Is everything alright?" the teacher asked after a long period of silence.
Rose stammered before whispering softly.
