Rose was up earlier than usual for several reasons.

One, was because she couldn't sleep due to yesterday's events that had shaken her up.

Another, was because it was cold in the living room and she spent the entire night shivering in her sleep.

Of course, falling asleep on the couch was a bad idea in the first place since she didn't even take a spare blanket for herself.

Groggily, she overcame the tiredness and forced herself to sit up from the couch and stretched out her aching arms.

From then, she took that quiet time to prepare breakfast. And this time it would be for two people, which was a little strange to her.

By the time Finnigan woke up and had grudgingly walked over to the kitchen, she had already made all their food.

When she first noticed Finnigan standing at the doorway, his clothes were all rustled and he had terrible bed hair sprouting from his head.

She pointed out the myriad of fluffy curls sticking out from his head and tilted her head in amusement. He looked like a sunken poodle.

When she took notice of his weary expression, she realised he was just standing there while staring at her awkwardly.

"Come eat," she said, gesturing him over to the table.

Finnigan glanced at the table before he eventually walked over towards her and silently complied by seating himself into one of the kitchen chairs.

She grabbed a piece of toast from the centre of the table, the cut-up sliced apples and put it on his plate with the jam and butter next to him.

"Eat up," she said, while standing up and walking over to the counter where the pancakes were.

When she put the stack of pancakes down onto the table, she instinctively gave two to Finnigan and put the maple syrup next to him.

"When you're finished I'm taking you back to Keenan," she mumbled while grabbing her own food.

While she used her fork to grab a pancake off the stack, she could see Finnigan visibly upset.

He frowned for a while before she gradually gestured for him to eat his food.

"I don't want to," he muttered.

Rose gulped the food she had in her mouth and looked at him with raised brows. She knew exactly what he meant but played oblivious.

"You don't want to eat?" she said while raising an eyebrow.

He pouted and grumpily stared at his food.

"You need to eat," she stated, resuming to eat her buttered toast. "It'll help you grow," she murmured.

"I don't want to go back," he retorted.

Rose froze and put her piece of toast back onto her plate. She then glanced at him warily.

"You're going back," she stated stubbornly.

Finnigan flinched in his seat and bit his lip at her abrupt rejection.

"I miss my mom," he whispered under his breath, "I want my mommy back."

Rose froze in her spot. His desperate voice rang though her ears. It was unbelievably hard just to keep her eyes away from him.

Finnigan stared at her with trembling lips but Rose tried to ignore him.

Before she said anything, she clenched her fists and slowly breathed out.
