I watched as Emiko excitedly scanned her list of songs. She seemed really excited, almost as excited as when I took her to the aquarium. But, what was that part about her father?

I knew I hadn't told her all of my secrets: like how my mother was the one who scarred me, or that my father was endeavor and a horrible human; but I wanted to know, despite how selfish it was.

"Your father..." She stiffened at my words, and I watched her carefully. "He was going to get you one of these?"

"Yeah. He...he lost a bet with me." She smiled bitterly, and I was shocked. Most every time I'd seen her Emiko had been smiling, happy to be alive and exist. But this, this wasn't happy.

"What kind of bet?"

She laughed softly. "Would you believe me if I said I enchanted my school's football team to win?"

I shook my head.

"Well, he bet I wouldn't. That's the bet he lost."

I laughed. "You enchanted an entire group of people to win a game."

"Yeah." Her smile turned soft and longing, and I placed my hand on her shoulder.

"Why didn't he come up here with you? Is he with your mother?" I asked carefully.

Emiko shrugged. "I guess. I don't, I don't really know." she finished almost quietly. Her hair hid her face from me, and I pulled her towards me, hugging her close. I didn't know for sure, but I was pretty sure I knew where her parents were.

My theory was solidified more as I felt her shake softly against me. Smoothing her hair gently, I kissed her forehead. Feeling so many emotions in such a short time probably wasn't good for her. I held her until she calmed down, thanking me quietly afterwards.
