I lay in blissful silence, listening to the waves crash against the rock around me and simply enjoying the peace. It was strange, my mothers quirk had been her singing, and my father manipulated water. Mix them together and most people would not predict a siren. Yet here I was, reveling in the peace.
"Whenever I was frightened, or felt alone," I sang quietly, my voice only just drowned out by the ocean. I loved the ocean because of that, I could sing for hours and no one would ever accidentally fall prey to my voice.
"I turned to the night sky, at a star I call my own. Somewhere I could run to, just across the milky way. If you like I could take you, just a lightyear and a day."
I sang my entire song in bliss, it ending louder than the ocean around us. I turned my gaze to the stars, enjoying their soft glow.
My bliss was interrupted by my cell phone pinging, loudly interrupting the peace. I sighed and pulled it out of my waterproof bag, smiling softly when I noticed it was a message from Shouto.
"Hey."
"Hi."
"Were you asleep?"
"No."
"Would you be willing to come outside and do something with me?"
I smiled slightly, repositioning myself on the rock. "Maybe, where would we be going?"
"Surprise."
I laughed softly. "Yeah sure, where do you want to meet?"
"I can be at your house in 15."
I smiled and pulled my hair cap out of my bag. "I could be there in a half an hour."
"Where are you now?"
"Umm...." I took a picture of the ocean and sent it. "Kinda in the middle of nowhere."
"Emiko! Thats dangerous!"
I laughed softly. "I'll be fine Shouto, I'll text you back soon." I slipped my phone in my bag and made sure it was closed before diving into the water. I let the water push me, and made it to the shore 10 minutes later, changing into warm clothes in a public restroom and pulling out my phone as I began my 20 minute walk home.
"I'm on land."
"Good, I was starting to worry. Where are you?"
I glanced up at the signs around me. "Northern Sakura road, by the beach and the 8 billion yen condo."
"I'll be there soon."
I smiled to myself and adjusted the scarf around my neck and face while I leaned against the building, I was only just beginning to get cold when Shouto slid into my view, literally. He was using an ice slide that melted seconds after he touched the ground and spotted me.
"Hey."
I smiled and walked up to him, pecking his cheek. "Where are we going"?
"Someplace nice."
I followed curiously, slipping my hand into his as we walked. I'd never had a boyfriend before Shouto that was willing to walk in the dark with me, but I found it soothing, really nice actually.
We walked for quite a while before Shouto reached where he wanted to be. My own eyes widened in amazement. Directly down the hill from us was a christmas fair. There were people selling stuff, people making stuff, hot chocolate and christmas goodies everywhere, and I spotted an entire group of people standing on a stage singing along to a song.
"I thought you might like it, seeing as you like christmas." He admitted.
I smiled widely up at him. "I love it already!" He smiled down at me and easily led me down the hill, directly into the cheerful crowd. He bought us both hot chocolate almost instantly, and I was quickly warmed back up.
Shouto and I spent quite a while simply looking around and buying food. Once in a while we'd buy something, and add it to our slowly growing pile of christmas gifts for people.
"How'd you even know about this place?" I wrote curiously a few hours later as we listened to a new group sing.
Shouto leaned down to talk in my ear so I could hear better. "Midoriya showed it to me last year when we were first year students."
I nodded, turning my attention back to the performers and clapping as they finished. They hadn't been that good, but they hadn't been bad either.
"Would anyone else like to come up and sing?" An announcer asked, his voice rolling over the crowd. "The next song is All I want for christmas by Mariah Carey!"
"Do you know that song?" Shouto asked as a girl climbed onto the stage with a grin. I winced and nodded, her voice went way too high on that first note. "That was loud." He commented as we began drifting away from the crowd. "I'd like to hear you sing someday." He decided. I laughed almost quietly. The day he heard me sing would be the day my quirk affected him.
Yes, I loved singing, but it enchanted everyone no matter how they knew me. Hence why my room had been soundproofed. Actually, the entire house had been soundproofed thanks to my uncles quirk.
"Is there any way I could get you on that stage?"
I quickly shook my head and he stared at me thoughtfully.
"What if it was for a bet?"
I narrowed my eyes, shaking my head. I'd enchanted a group of high schoolers once because of a bet, I didn't want to enchant a crowd of strangers. Especially not with that song.
"Alright, not yet. I think they were selling christmas cookies over there."
I easily followed him, wondering what he'd meant by yet. We ended up staying there until early morning, when everyone started to pack up. I yawned almost invisibly, but Shouto noticed.
"I'll take you home now."
I nodded and swung our arms slightly as we began our walk. It was nice, just walking with him like this. No roles, no school, no quirks affecting us, just blissful silence with the guy I loved.
I smiled at Shouto as he turned me around outside my front door. "I'll see you soon Emiko."
I kissed his cheek. "Yeah, thank you again for tonight Shouto, I really did love it."
He smiled softly, a smile I now knew was reserved for me. "That's good." He kissed my forehead, flashed me one more smile, and left.
