Evangeline

Two weeks and a few days has past since I saw Mare in Norta.

Cal is depressed all the time, he's actually sitting next to me at the moment in the throne room; Drinking scotch.

"Its too early in your rule to start drinking now husband." I emphasize the last word with acid. His face looks broken and he looks like an empty shell. He pours a second glass.

"I miss her so much, I fucked up so bad!" Dramatic much. He throws the glass of scotch into the fireplace and it rises from the accelerant. Tiberias Calore is an empty shell of who he was, I guess he never expected that the pain would be this bad.

"I miss her too." There's pain here too. I can't believe I didn't like her in the past but now she has really grown on me.

"She loved me and I let her go." Even his voice is fragile. I have never seen him so broken up. He was always born to be King but he's empty without her. She always made him smile. I've never seen him smile in two weeks. They were made for each other. Mare is feisty and brave while Cal is soft like a sponge and idotic when it comes to anything political. She would have influenced him to make right decisions.

"She left because you gave her up for a crown; you made her feel inadequate." Seeing a grown man cry seems intense.

"Help me get her back?" Desperation crosses his face; he looks paler. No way she's never coming back to you, I want to say.

Although Elane and I decided to go on a break. We still write to each other. I understand what he's going through but he's the wrong one here.

"No, you don't deserve a second chance. Let her move on and get married to another man and have his children." His face looks battered from my comment and I love sinking the knife deeper because he looks as if I actually stabbed him.

"And maybe she'll forget all about you and your stupid bronze eyes and enjoy the pleasure of someone else that would give the entire world to be with her." I should stop my verbal torture but this feels too good. Fire bursts from the palms of his hands.

"I did this for her!" He shout and slams his fist.

"No you didn't, you did this because you saw an opportunity to take power and deep down inside your a power hungry monster just like your brother and father. Mare told me what you did." He doesn't seem regretful or even disturbed by my remark.

"She killed my mother and father plus stole my Kingdom. It was simply: an eye for an eye." He seems sure that he did the right thing.

"Its not that you killed her, it's the way you killed her." He takes the bottle of scotch and goes up to his room. I catch a glimpse of something in his hand, it's hard to make out.

My mind drifts to my brother and Elane. Since Tolly decided to marry Wren instead, it's not like I can see Elane like I used to when she and my brother were betrothed. Nevertheless I will never deprive my brother of true love and happiness. He deserves happiness ever since father was taken away by Maven's whore from the Lakelands.

How dear he bring a Lakelander of all the countries he brought the worst one here and just by killing my father they showed their ruthlessness. Maven killed people with his bare hands and a sword that drove into people's hearts.

It was pure brutality, his eyes were electric fiery blue and his fire was drifting closer to the colour blue. The hottest flames are blue flames.

I remember when he called Elane my whore, I could have slapped that little boy out of existence. No man should ever refer to a woman in that way.

I finished writing my weekly letter to Elane. This marriage was a mistake. Just like Mare, Elane did not want to be my mistress and it's not like I can love Cal because you know I'm a lesbian so there is no way that this is going to work.
