Chapter 10 - The Date

       Lee and Gaara now meet everyday at a small cafe down the street from Gaara's plant nursery. They have now been dating for about six months. But... Today was... Particularly standoffish from the other days of their relationship.

       Lee walks down the street happily talking to his friends, Naruto and Neji. He skips ahead of them, in a definite hurry to get to Gaara's shop to take him to the fair tonight.

       "Lee! We're in no hurry... Well me and Naruto aren't... But calm down!" Neji shouts ahead at Lee, waving his hand.

       "But, Neji! I'm in a big hurry! Gaara-Kun could yell at me if I don't hurry! And today is gonna be the best date yet!" Lee shouts back, skipping even faster.

       "Great... He's just going to go faster if we mention Gaara or anything about their date..." Neji mutters angrily, grumbling under his breath. Naruto chuckles.

       "Well that's Bushy Brows for ya. Always in a hurry to be perfect." Naruto says. Neji nods and mumbles something that Naruto doesn't catch.

       When Naruto and Neji reach the shop after Lee they see him staring into the shop, watching something closely. They peer in, seeing a tall, brown-headed man leaning over the counter and talking smoothly to Gaara. Gaara doesn't seem to be paying any attention to him. That probably relieved Lee. All of the sudden, a huge red flag popped up..

       The man steps around the counter and walks right up to Gaara to pin him to the wall. Lee slams the glass door of the shop open and runs inside, jumping over the counter and harshly pushing the man away from Gaara. He had gotten way too close. Lee stood in front of Gaara protectively. Neji and Naruto walked inside after Lee, but stopped when Lee had jumped over the counter. They were fairly surprised that he didn't hit the cacti that were on the counter.

       "Who's this? Your boyfriend?" The man asks, a smirk growing on his face.

       "As a matter of fact, yes, he is." Gaara says, peeking over Lee's shoulder at the man. Lee puts his hands on his hips.

       "More fun..." The man mutters, a smirk growing back on his face.

       "OH HELL NAW." Naruto yells, getting on top of the counter and shoving the man back further. He falls flat onto his back and groans. Naruto laughs. "Bitch if you don't."

       "Fine... Jesus... Bye, little red-head." The man says, cooing at Gaara. Lee scowls at the man and watches him, making sure he leaves. Then, when the man left for sure, Lee turned around and grabs Gaara's shoulders.

       "HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO YOU, DID HE? YOU'RE NOT HURT?" Lee shouts worriedly, eyes shining with rage. Gaara waves his hands passively.

       "I'm perfectly fine, Lee, now, shall we get going?" Gaara mutters, tilting his head and smiling. Lee nods slowly.

       "Alright then... Let's head out!!" Lee says, grabbing Gaara's hand and dragging him out of the shop and to the fair. Neji and Naruto followed behind them closely.

       "Those lovebirds, am I right, Naruto?" Neji says, looking over at where Naruto should be, only to find him off talking to a group of girls. Neji sighs, accepting that he'll be lonely forever. He goes off to find a ride to ride on alone.

       Meanwhile, our favorite couple was enjoying some cotton candy at a bench beside a swinging ride. Lee watches admirably as the ride swings up and over the bar and everyone screams. Gaara only looked up when he heard screams. Scary.

       "GAARA-KUN WE SHOULD GO ON THAT!!!" Lee shouts, pointing up at the swinging ride. Gaara shakes his head rapidly.

       "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.. No." Gaara says, still shaking his head rapidly. Lee sighs sadly.

       "Alright... Hey, Gaara-Kun? Could I ask you a question?" Lee says, tilting his head at Gaara. Gaara sighs and nods.

       "I suppose so... It won't hurt anything..." Gaara mumbles, shrugging.

       "So... Um... Who was that guy in the shop? It seemed like you knew him..." Lee mutters, looking at his feet.

       "I-.... Yeah... I knew him....... He was......M-My.... Ex...." Gaara mumbles, tossing his cotton candy and standing up a little angrily and a little sadly. Lee stands up with him.

       "Gaara? I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings by asking the question! I-... I was curious! Gaara?? Hey, wait!" Lee shouts as Gaara turns and starts walking away.
