Sitting in my room staring at the blank wall before me, I try and decide what pictures should go where. I look at the overly sized box with great interest. I hated unpacking and without any one to keep me company it was getting boring fast. I stood up wiping my hands on my jeans and did a once over of the room.

The room was an eggshell white. Square shaped with a random ceiling to floor window on the left wall. I had purchased furniture a week prior to me moving here but it had yet to arrive. So in the meantime I had decided to unpack what I could and decorate.

The living room was attached to the kitchen and breakfast area, it was also empty. I loved cooking! So when I saw this kitchen when I was searching for a home I just had to have it. It had all new stainless steel appliances and an oversized walk in pantry. The counters were a white and grey color granite.

After deciding I was finished unpacking for the day, I walked over to the fridge to pour myself a glass of juice when suddenly my phone started ringing. I walked over to it not really in a rush to answer it.

"Hello, this is Eve speaking," I said in an answer machine type voice.

“Hey Eve?"

"Yes this is her," I said, Smiling knowing exactly who was on the other end.

“I know that smart one who else would be answering your phone?" She teased.

“My amazingly gorgeous boyfriend of course!" I bluntly said. I was welcomed by a roaring screaming laughter from the other end. I grimaced and held the phone out looking at it.

"Ha! You having a boyfriend? Without me knowing and him over at your house? You crack me up Eve. Just quit your day job and become a comedian now." She said, still giggling.

“Ha, what was it that you called for?" I questioned, trying to drop the subject about me being forever alone.

“Well I was wondering if you weren't already busy if you wanted to uh... I don't know maybe, Uhmm...?"

I surpresed a chuckle. “Are you asking me on a date? Is there something I should know about?" I ask.

I walked over to the counter and leaned against it. I took a long swig of juice and then placed the cup in the sink. I then pulled myself up on the counter and sat down.

"Well," I asked, she had been quiet the whole time I had done that and I had figured she had happened to accidently hang up on me.

"Ok look, so there's this guy I know," she started. I knew all too well where this was heading.

"I'm not going to go out with him. What did I tell you about hooking me up with guys?" I complained, rubbing my forehead with my fore finger and thumb.

"Eve! Shut up! He's my date! He asked me out. I was just calling to find out if you wanted to come with us?" She squealed.

I thought for a moment about the events that would happen. She would be kicking me out so I wouldn't be 'interrupting their quality time' and most definitely I didn't want to be the third wheel. Couldn't she just go alone with him? I mean wasn't that the point of a date? Correct if I'm wrong but I believe I'm right.

"Sorry Sophia but I already know what’s to come if I go. Just go alone After all it is a date."

“But Everett, what if I say the wrong thing or embarrass myself? At least you'll be there to help me out if... no when I need It." she cried to me.

I knew her tricks and I was not going to fall for her tricks this time. I was going to stand my ground like a big girl. No more wimping out for me. From here on out I would have a say in things.

"Ok fine. What are friends for? Just one question. Where is this ' date' taking place?" I finally say.

“Ohhh yes! I knew I could count on you. He's taking me to my first baseball game. Isn't that so romantic?" she cooed.

If that was her idea of romantic I think she needed some help.

"Uh huh if you’re into that kind of stuff. When is it?" I asked. I already knew where it was because we only had one stadium in this city.

“This Saturday at 6 pm be there or be square and by the way please try and keep me acting civil. I really like this guy. I think he's the one!" she begged.

I sighed and knew of course he was not the one. She had always said that about every guy she's been with so I knew this probably wasn't going to last.

"Ok, see ya than " I replied.

“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You don't know how much this means to me! Don't be late! Bye" and then she hung up.

I placed my phone on the counter and pinched the top of my nose feeling a headache coming on. Why couldn't I just say no... Let’s just say I had a feeling in my gut and it wasn't a good one.
