Looking in the mirror I did a twirl trying to decide on what to wear. It was fall and I had to dress casual, it was a baseball game after all. I was looking at my current outfit debating if it was considered casual or dressy.
The outfit consisted of skinny jeans, brown knee high flat heeled boots, and a plain white V-neck with a cheetah scarf. I took a chance and went with it telling myself I wasn't a teenage girl trying to impress all the guys. My hair was a dizzy mess so there was only one solution for that... a bun. Then lastly; make up I left to a minimal.
I looked around the literally empty house and turned off all the lights, picking up my keys heading out the front door.
I pulled up and immediately I could smell the stench of beer and hotdogs. They smelled bad enough alone but together it was almost nauseating. I held my breath for a minute and sat down on a bench in the front waiting for Sophia.
I took out my phone seeing if she had texted me, sadly she hadn't. I put my phone back into my brown leather purse and sat down taking in the area. The entrance way kind of looked like a movie theatre entrance. The ticket booth up front and then benches lining the walkway, trees behind them.
I saw a guy sitting on a bench across from me. I'm not going to lie he was pretty handsome. Though did I mention he was full on staring at me? He had no shame! So me being the awkward person I was smiled and did a slight wave. He chuckled and waved at me, also flashing his pearly whites. I let out a girly giggle then looked down embarrassed, a slight blush creeping its way in.
I peeked up, looking through my eyelashes, shy to show my red face. There was only one problem, he wasn't there. I completely lifted my head having a confused look on my face.
"I'm so awkward." I said to myself.
"Maybe, but I thought it was cute." a deep voice said. I turned to my right were the voice had come from and he was sitting RIGHT. NEXT. TO. ME.
I instantly turned red, putting my hands in my lap and making them my new focus of attention.
"Ahh your shy?" he said in a questioning tone.
I dared not to look at him when I talked. "I'm not shy. I just don't know you is all." I heard a chuckle to the side of me and I looked up then quickly down when I saw his gorgeous eyes. They were a light grey and twinkled. Like a star.
“Ok I get it. You think I'm hot or something don’t you?" he asked.
I felt my blush fade and I looked at him avoiding eye contact. "Self-centered much. I already told you, I just don't know you."
He let out a sigh. "So may I ask what your name is?" He then put his arm around the back of the bench sort of around me. Except he wasn't touching me.
"I,".....
"Everett!" Sophia screamed from across the parking lot.
I smiled at her hilarious sumo wrestler walk she was doing, arms held out for a hug. Then she stopped about two feet in front of me, a grin stretching from one end of her face to another. I raised an eyebrow wondering why she had stopped.
Then I remembered that he was sitting next to me. With his arm around me. I could only imagine what was going through her head now.
"Sophia, I can explain" I said shaking my hands in front of me.
"Everett its ok. I just didn't think you were serious when a hot guy could answer your phone. He's cute. Eve don't be shy introduce me to your new found lover." she said winking at me. I of course blushed.
"Sophia he's not," I started but he cut me off.
"Hey. I'm Mark. I guess you’re the one she's been waiting for." he said putting his hand out to shake hers. She instead pulled him into a bear hug and whispered something in his ear. While she was doing so he stared at me. I looked down embarrassed wondering what she was saying.
Then when I heard the both of them laughing I looked up and he came and stood next to me grinning like the Cheshire cat.
“WHAT’S SO FUNNY?" I said a little ticked.
"Whoa babes don’t be mad. Sophia said that you can go and sit with me and watch the baseball game. Her date is already inside waiting. She felt bad for making you come and be the third wheel so she’s letting you come with Me." he said then winked.
"Sophia I don't know,"
"It’s ok, have fun with your date and ill have fun with mine. Text me later I want to hear the details. I lurve you hot stuff! BYE" she yelled then walked inside.
I frowned. This is not how I planned my day to go. I just wanted to stay home in the first place.
"Ugh!" I grunted out loud.
I had forgotten he was there until I heard him let out a slight chuckle.
“Let’s go. I’ll make sure you'll have fun" he said putting a hand out to help me up. I refused his hand and he smiled. “What? I don't bite... Hard" he began laughing. I just stared. I honestly did not get the joke.
“Let’s just get this over with." I said leading the way into the stadium. He grabbed my arm before I could walk in.
“Honestly do you really want to go and watch a boring game of baseball?" he asked still holding onto my arm, a little too tightly.
"What I like baseball." he just stared at me. “Ok I don't but I don't want to go somewhere with you. Like I said before, I don't know you."
“Babe, that's the whole point of a date." He said letting my arm go.
I looked at him with wide eyes in disbelief. Did I hear him right?
“Whoa whoa whoa. Who said we were going on a date?" I asked.
“I did. Aren't you happy?" he questioned.
“uhmmm... but I never agreed to this." I replied folding my arms across my chest.
“You just did. Let’s go “he said, grabbing my hand pulling me towards the parking lot.
I gave in and followed and He still held my hand. I didn't say anything though because it was pretty chilly and his hand was warm.
