'Stupid. Stupid, Stupid.' Mat thought. He was at school, and had just written Lane a note. What was he doing?! He loved Janelle, but something about Lane was drawing him again. Maybe it was her eyes? The way she talked? The way she smiled. The way she had kissed him? Nothing was wrong with Janelle. Nothing at all. Mat put his head in his hands and wanted to float away, away from this where he could have Lane and Janelle and no one would say anything about it.
"Mat?" Everyone was looking at him.
"Hm?" He felt his cheeks getting hot.
"Can you tell me the answer to this question?" Mrs. Sortez asked.
"One over nine?"
"Correct."
Mrs. Sortez went back to the board and said a few other things. Janelle looked kept taking side glances at him.
"Are you okay?" She whispered.
"I'm fine." He winked at her. "I could use some help feeling even better though."
"Hehe after soccer?" She giggled.
"Yeah."
Suddenly he was very excited only one thing could take place now, they would be together alone, in his house, because his parents were gone. He looked at her again and imagined everything.
