Mat stumbled after Tara like she was a deer in the woods.
"Tara!" There was no answer. He called her for what seemed the thousandth time. Finally she picked up.
"Mat, I'm sorry I ran out on you. Can you meet me at the car?" She sounded scared. It made Mat feel like he wanted to protect her, wrap his arms around her and never let go.
"Ok, I'm coming." He pushed his way through people on the golf course and finally made it back to his car. Tara sat on the side of the car with her knees pulled up to her chest, she was looking around frantically. When she saw Mat her face lit up with recognition.
"Mat!" She stood from the car and ran to him. She threw her arms around him and squeezed. He returned the gesture.
"Are you ok?" He said into her hair.
"Janelle was here and she was saying to stay away from you."
Mat held her away from him at arms length.
"Janelle?" He spat.
"Mhm. She was scaring me." Mat wanted to hurt Janelle, hurt her for scaring Tara, for breaking his heart, for everything that was a lie.
"I'll take care of it." He planned to do just that.
