River POV

Me and Raelynn stayed silent. I didn't know what to say anymore. How he come here? Did mom invited him? If she did, why she didn't tell us? Why are we always getting surprised? Mom looked at us in awe. "Anything you wanna say, girls?" She asked. I inhaled a deep breath. Raelynn almost looked at me worriedly. "Are you ok?" He asked, referring to me. Suddenly, tears formed in my eyes. "Why'd you bring him here?" I asked. Mom looked at me in concern. "He came over to talk with me. It's was about you both and we could- I cut her off by running upstairs. "River, wait!" Raelynn said. I ran to my bedroom and slammed the door shut. I flunked myself on the bed. I don't know why I'm crying. Oh I do, I'm still angry at him. It's not even about the Meadow girl or telling Kelly. I hadn't realized tears were stained on my face. I wiped my eyes. He just shows up out of nowhere to talk to mom without us having no clue. The door opened a little. "Can I come in?" A deep soft voice asked. I sighed. "It's a free country, isn't it?" I said sarcastically. He walked in. I got off the pillow and sat on the bed. I huffed. "Ok, anything you wanna say? You and mom were just talking behind our backs." I growled. "What? We wasn't talking behind your backs. She called you down here." He said. I nodded and looked away. Tears reformed in my eyes. I groaned. "Why do I keep crying? I'm not sad." I said. He almost rubbed my hair. "Then what's wrong?" He asked softly. "You left me. You left Raelynn and mom. You left us the day we were born and then had another daughter with some high school ex. You've been in her life more than ours. Thanks to you, I know exactly how it feels to not have a father in my life. Every Father's day, I'm alone while kids are having so much fun with their dads. I'm not even mad at her, mom, our family or anybody else. I'm mad at you." I cried. Tears were stained on his face. "I'm really sorry, River. I wanted to be in you and Raelynn's life but I was scared of having a baby when I wasn't ready. Same for Meadow till I finally got serious. Your mom told me she was pregnant but agreed for her to take care of you till it was time. I'm sorry I wasn't there for fourteen years, I fully regretted that. But I'm here. And I'll never ever leave you. I want to be in your lives forever." He said. I took a deep breath. "How...is she? Meadow?" I asked. He smiled a bit. "She's fine. What about you?" He said. I scoffed. "Oh, I've been much better." I said. Many reasons that I'm better. One of them's Kelly. A soft knock was heard. Raelynn stood by my door. My eyes widened. "Raelynn, how long you've been standing there?" I asked. "Just got here." She quickly said. I looked at her. She playfully rolled her eyes. "Alright. Three minutes." She told me. Dad chuckled. I sighed. "I'm sorry I even hated Meadow for being the only little girl you love. Guess we really wanted a father too." I said. He motioned Raelynn to come sit. She sat on his left. He wrapped his arms around us. "You both are also my little girls. I love you." He said, smiling. I smiled widely and hugged him. Raelynn did the same. "We love you too." We said. We shared a bear hug. "Can we hang out? Like go see our family on your side? Maybe grab pizza?" She asked. I laughed. "Rae, calm down. We just got back from shopping." I said. Dad smiled. "Sometime this week we'll go see everybody." He said. I returned the gesture. "I'd like that." I said. She shrugged and parted from his grasp. My phone buzzed. A text from Kelly. Finally!

Kells💞😘: hey! Know what this week is?🤗

I slightly chuckled and texted back.

River🌊: lol yea happy birthday cutie😘

Kells💞😘: naww stop☺️

I looked up to see dad and Raelynn watching me. She hid a chuckle. I smiled nervously and closed my phone. He smirked, raising an eyebrow. "Who were you texting?" He asked. Oh man. He doesn't know I'm with Kelly. I gotta say something. "Oh it's just a friend from homeschool! Nothing new!" I lied. He nodded in understanding. Raelynn smirked. "What's new is someone's birthday this week. Your birthday is in two months, right River?" She said. I fake smiled. "Yes I'm aware." I said through gritted teeth. Dad smiled. "I know! Are you throwing a party?" He said. I shrugged. "Honestly, I haven't decided yet." I said. She scoffed. "Oh please! A party's no big deal and you've got much friends to invite! Even a certain...person." She said, smirking. I'm clearly gonna hurt her. My brain clicked. The party shouldn't be bad. I smiled confidently. "Yup, I will have my party in the house." I said. He nodded. "Cool! I'll also be there when you drive." He said. I groaned softly. They laughed. Why must I be embarrassed? I got up, heading for downstairs. I made my way to the living room. I officially wished I didn't walked in. Mom laid unconscious on the floor. Blood trickled down her forehead. My jaw dropped. "DAD!" I screamed. They rushed downstairs and saw mom's lifeless body. Bredia covered her mouth in shock. I hugged her as tears fell from her eyes. Dad pulled out his phone and dialed 911.

Back at the hospital. I hated being back in here. Everything is freaky to me because people actually die here. Mom was taken to the ER. I thought she was ok. This is confusing and awful. We were in the waiting room. My face was dried from tears. I rubbed Raelynn's arm softly as she slept on my shoulder. Dad was talking with the doctor. It made me anxious to know if she'll be ok this time. But magic isn't real. There could be possibilities that she won't be. Dad came back with fresh tears in his eyes. Raelynn woke up. "She's gone. They tried to save her but she's brain dead." He cried. She began crying and I hugged her. I shedded tears. He hugged both of us. "It'll be ok." I said in a soothing voice. I wasn't sure if we'll be. We lost our mommy and there's no way it doesn't hurt. Least she left us with dad to have us. I broke away from the hug. "Dad?" I whispered. He looked at me. "Yeah?" He said. "Can we live with you?" I asked. He nodded, kissing my forehead. "Yes, princess. You can." He said. I smiled sadly and hugged them.

The Next Day...

We left the hospital and said our last condolences to mom. She'll always be with us. I can feel it. We came home and packed our bags. Dad filed custody for me and Raelynn. We're now going to live with him. This will be a surprise because we'll meet Meadow too. CJ, Jack and Leila heard what happened and called me. I need to call Kelly. I can't leave her lost without knowing what's going on. As I packed my makeup kit, I dialed her number. She answered. "Hello?" She said. I smiled sadly. "Hey, sweet." I said. She sighed. "Are you ok? CJ told me what happened. I'm so sorry I was busy." She said. I nodded my head no. "It's alright! It's your birthday and you're celebrating. I'm officially gonna live with my dad and everything's good." I told her. "Really? That's great! I'm glad you're not alone through this." She said, the cheerfulness in her voice. I smiled. "Thanks. Anything coming up?" I said. She chuckled. "Yeah. My birthday party's tomorrow! It starts at 6pm in Malibu. All my friends and family will be there." She said. I raised an eyebrow. "Did you tell your parents about us?" I asked. "YES!" She cheered. I laughed. "They totally understood and was sad as if they treated me like a perfect person. Well, nobody's perfect. They really like you anyway and hope you come to my party." She said. I smiled. "Course I would." I said. "I'm so happy, I wish I could hug you." She said. I nodded in understanding. "See you tomorrow, beautiful." I said. "You too." She said and hung up. Raelynn smirked. I rolled my eyes. "What?" I asked. "You haven't told dad." She said. I knew what she meant. How will he respond though? Kelly's parents don't care and they like me. What if he'll think differently? Nope, he won't. I never thought differently when she told me they didn't know. I scoffed. "I'm sure he won't care. He said he'd want us to be who we really are." I said. She smiled. "You sure?" She asked. I quickly nodded. Dad walked in and smiled. "Ready?" He asked. "Yup!" We both said. We grabbed our bags and left the house. I got in the front seat of his car. Raelynn was in the backseat and he drove off. We are now about to have a new life with him in the picture.

Kelly POV

I can't contain my excitement! My birthday party's tomorrow and my parents accepted me and River's relationship. My parents helped with my birthday planning too. I'm now a little tired. I took a shower and changed to my pjs. I turned on the TV. I grabbed my blue teddy bear and played with it. My brain clicked in memory. River won a game to get me this. It's incredibly sweet. Happy tears began to form in my eyes. I smiled warmly. I hugged the bear and set it on my nightstand. I wiped my eyes and pushed my hair back. My door opened. Mom smiled and kissed my forehead. I chuckled. "What was that for?" I asked. "I'm proud of you, honey. I'm sorry you felt like you had to be great at everything for us." She told me. I smiled. "Thanks, mom." I said. "Dinner's ready." She said. I nodded. "I'll be down in a minute." I said. She nodded and left. My phone buzzed.
