"Percy." Sally laughed joyously as her five year old son dragged her by her fingers straight through the door of the aqarium.
"Mommy! Quickwy! We need to see the feeshees." Percy exclaimed."Alright, alright." Sally said chuckling, letting her son pull her inside.
They were standing in the middle of a giant glass tunnel where numerous kinds of fishes were swimming away. There weren't too many people. A few couples, a little group of children.
There was a family nearby. The father had blonde hair and wore square glasses. He held a younger boy's hand who was desperately trying to kick his twin brother in the shin. The two boys had obviously taken after their mother, who was standing beside them. Brown hair and brown eyes. Sitting on a small ledge beside the glass was a little blonde haired girl. Her hair was tied up in a tiny little pony tail and her grey eyes sparkled as she read her enormous book.
The rest of her family was paying no attention to her and though the girl didn't seem to mind, Sally knew that she did in fact care about it alot.
Percy let go of his mother's fingers and pressed his nose against the glass.
"Wow." Percy marveled quietly.
Immediately the fish that were closest to the glass swam curiously towards him and gathered around behind the glass in a massive, wonderous swirl of colours.
Percy gasped suddenly. "Mommy." He whispered cautiously. "The fishies are talking to me."
A woman behind them laughed softly and smiled at Sally who in turn returned it politely.
Sally knelt down next to Percy. "What are they saying?"
"The blue one over there called me 'my lord' and he said that my jacket was nice." Percy replied tugging on the sleeves of his blue polar jacket.
"Oh really?" Sally asked, truely curious.
"Yeah. And the nemo fishie- his name is Jerry and he's Nemo's cousin's brother's sister's mother's father's grand daughter- he said that you were vewy vewy pwetty and vewy vewy nice." Percy said, gazing at his mother with those adorable sea green eyes.
Sally smiled at him. "Is that so? Could you ask the fishies if they like blue cupcakes?"
Percy's eyes lit up. "Oh no." He said hurriedly. "They don't like blue cupcwakes. They like seaweed."
"Oh." Sally frowned. "Well, what a pity-"
"I could eat it for them." Percy suggested enthusiastically wuth a big smile, showing off his little tooth beside the ones in the middle that had just fallen out.
Sally smiled and rumaged around in her bag, taking out the red plastic box with the cupcake in it she gave it to Percy.
Percy eagerly took the box and opened it buf then he caught sight of the blonde girl, not far off reading her book. She momentarily glanced up from her book but immediately burried her nose in it again when she saw Percy looking at her.
Sally watched her son walk up ti her and sit down beside her nervously.
"Hello." He whispered.
"Hi." The girl whispered back, looking away from the book.
Percy smiled toothily, happy that the girl had talked. "My name is Percy Jackson."
"I'm Annabeth Chase." The girl said smiling back.
"You looked lonely. Where's your family?" Percy asked curiously peering over her shoulder. "Are they those people?"
Annabeth nodded. "They don't care about me." She confided.
"Oh." Percy frowned then looking determinedly brave, he said. "They are vewy mean then."
He looked at his lap where his cupcake lay fogotten in the red plastic container.
"Do you want some cupcake?" He asked.
"It's blue." Annabeth stated. "It looks like a yummy brick too."
Percy grinned at her- that trouble maker smirk which made his preschool teacher immediately wary of him.
He broke the cupcake in half and gave Annabeth the obviously bigger piece which she took rather hesitantly.
They ate it in silence.
Percy brushed off the crumbs clumsily on his jeans. "Do you like the fishies?"
"No. They keep scowling at me." Annabeth said, fogetting that fish can't scowl.
"Oh." Percy said. "Well," he pointed at a little blue fish. "That one's Jiffy. I think he likes you. He told me to tell you that you look vewy pwetty."
Annabeth giggled. "Thank you Jiffy." She said to fish.
"He says 'your welcome miss'." Percy stage whispered to her.
Annabeth grinned at him.
Sally laughed at herself quietly, watching her son make a likely new friend.
A little bit away from the two small children, Frederick Chase watched the exchange completely baffled.
It was the first time he'd seen his daughter look so happy. It was the first time in many years he had heard his daughter laugh and smile like that.

Years later when Sally met Percy's best friend for the first time, she immediately recognised those grey eyes and the blonde hair. So when she had introduced herself as Annabeth Chase, Sally couldn't have been more sure.
And when she smiled at her, Sally knew that she remembered too.
But of course, Percy being Percy was oblivious to it all.

After the war with Kronos, Annabeth thought she would repay the kindness a five year old boy had once shown.
So she made him a blue cupcake.
