"Mommy!" The young black haired boy shouted, grasping the fingers on his mother's hand. "Can we get a Nemo?"

Sally knelt down next to her five year old. "Oh Percy, we don't have any money to spend on anything but the groceries."

Percy's face fell. He had been looking so forward to getting a new toy. But now, all because of Smelly Gabe and his refusal to give just little bit more of extra money, Percy wouldn't be able to get that special Nemo stuffed toy.

"Hey, if we have anything left, I'll make sure to buy you something blue, okay?" His mother told him.

"And if we don't?" Percy wondered sadly.

"Well, then I'll get you some blue lollies from Sweet on America and I'll make you a blue cupcake."

That cheered Percy up a little and he followed his mother into the Walmart store in jumpy leaps.

His mom bought every thing she needed and they were just about to go when Percy saw the most dazzling thing ever. It shone out to him like a beacon. A blue beacon shaped just like a teddy bear with a white curling ribbon.

Percy gasped and ran towards it, past a long shelf and through older people's legs, until at last he had it in his little hands. He hugged it to his chest, feeling warm and fuzzy.

"Mommy! Can I pwease-"

He looked around to find his mother. He wanted to ask her if he could buy the teddy bear. Maybe it could help scare away the monsters in his nightmares. And what was more, it was blue.

But when he looked around, he couldn't find her.

There were people towering above him, bustling past in the aisles. They were all carrying shopping bags and talking to each other. No one noticed him.

He felt very insignificant and small.

The teddy bear dropped to the floor and Percy's lips began to tremble. "M-mommy?"

Tears began to form at the corners of his eyes.

What was he going to do? What if she was lost forever? What if he never saw her kind eyes or her smiling face ever again?

"Mommy?" He whispered, a little bit louder, but his voice was drowned down by the loud speaker that was blaring out of the intercom.

Tears splashed onto his cheeks and he grabbed the edges of his jacket in a tight clench, trying to stop his hands from shaking.

Then he saw something. A flash of brown hair and a sea green blouse- the same one his mother had been wearing.

She rushed towards him and kneeled down, but before she could get to him, Percy threw his arms around her in a tight grasp. She hugged him back.

People stared down at them as they passed but Percy couldn't care less.

"Don't you dare run away from me again, got it?"

Percy nodded his head feverishly. "I won't. Never." He hugged her again and whispered something in her ear. "You're way better than bwue, mommy."

Right there, in the middle of Walmart, Percy Jackson had his very first adventure.
