HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY NEEKS!!!

"Solace, where the hell are you taking me?"

"Don't peek!" Will said hastily.

"I'm not!" Nico complained. He opened his eyes a little bit. They were still in camp half blood but...

"Nico!" Will tightened the grip of his hands on his eyes.

He guided Nico gently towards the Hades cabin and pushed open the obsidian door. The green flames beside it glowed brighter and less spookier than usual.

With a smirk planted on his face, Will shut the door behind them. "We're in my cabin." Nico declared.

"No." Will said casually.

Nico smiled and peeled off Will's hands away from his eyes. "The gloominess speaks to me." He explained.

"It's not gloomy." Will attempted, looking around. "It's very cheerful and exciting in a dark sort of way. You know?"

"Nope. I don't know." Nico replied with a smile. Will had noticed that he had been smiling more than usual before. He wondered what it was that made him do it. He really wished that he was the cause of making Nico smile.

"Why are we here exactly?" Nico asked. "It's not like it's anything special."

"Drop the act, Nico." Will said with a laugh. "I know it's your birthday."

"Dam." He muttered under his breath.

"Yeah." Will said with a laugh, hitting his shoulder playfully. "Dam."

He reached inside his pocket and pulled something out. A pendant made of pure black rock. It was carved into the shape of a dark black sun.

Nico stared at it in awe.

"Flip it." Will instructed.

He hesitantly turned it over. The words You are my sunshine were etched onto the polished black surface.

"Will-"

"Just- another something for your camp neckless."

"It's more than that." Nico muttered. "It's from you. Thanks." He couldn't find the right words to fit into the scentense. Thanks seemed too little.

Will held out outstretched arms. "You gonna give me a hug or what?"

Nico laughed at him. Will wondered why he had never laughed like this before. Such a beautiful sound was meant to be heard by the whole world.

He closed in and hugged the son of Hades tightly. "Happy birthday Nico."

All around them, the lights suddenly turned on, revealing hundreds of multicoloured party balloons and streamers. Party poppers started going out into big bangs of colour and a mass of cheers erupted, shouting out something vaguely sounding like, Happy Birthday.

The whole of Camp Half Blood was in here. Even Frank, Hazel and Reyna. Even coach Hedge, Mellie, Chuck and some other wood nymphs.

Piper's smile beamed at him. Jason was jumping about madly, shouting best wishes. Leo was hollering the birthday song, with Calypso laughing and trying to get him to stop. Annabeth was smiling widely at him and laughing joyfully. Percy was giving him a thumbs up, grinning like a madman. Hazel blew him a kiss and Frank smiled at him widely.

Lou Ellen and Cecil were grinning at him and waving at him excitedly.

Even Reyna was smiling and singing Happy Birthday at the top of his voice.

But this is all wrong, Nico thought. I'm supposed to be the outcast. No one is meant to like me. I'm a son of Hades. I don't belong with them.

And yet here they all were, wishing him a happy birthday. His first proper birthday in so long. Never had so many people loved him like this.

Nico turned around to Will in surprise. He smiled at him. "I told you you weren't alone so many months ago didn't I?"

Before Nico could react, Will took his hand and kissed his cheek in front of all those people. A small step maybe, but still a giant leap of confidence.

"And you never will be, as long as I'm here."
